Sustainibility

A Sustainable City - Sabah AlSalim University City

The buildings and strategies are available in Sabah Al-Salem University City to achieve sustainability, reduce pollution, and provide water on the campus as a healthy city

District cooling system

There are three main stations to generate chilled water needed to cool all the buildings of Sabah Al-Salem University City, and the three stations are connected to one main network. The water needed for each college is cooled through heat exchangers located in each building along with all the pumps and equipment necessary to distribute cold water to the entire building and operate all air handling units

Cooling system

Each cooling station has a tank designed to store cold water from when the load on the 2chillers is low during the night. The chilled water from this tank iS pumped into the pipe network during the day when the cooling load is at its maximum, which saves energy.

Solar power for heat

Solar complexes have been installed on the roofs of colleges and buildings where the necessary space is available. These solar complexes collect solar energy and use it to heat the water needed for bathrooms, kitchens and laboratories. This process is considered the most important means of energy saving. Solar heated water is also stored and pumped by pumps for use throughout the building.

Solar cells to generate electricity

Solar energy has been used to generate electrical energy through photovoltaic cells, and the electricity generated from solar rgy is used to illuminate emergency searchlights and Street lighting as well as for educational purposes.

Quad-treated water

Quad-treated water is used instead of using fresh water to compensate for lost water in cooling towers. The project was provided with a quadruple treatment water compass from the Ministry of Works and stored in prepared tanks, so it is located with cooling plants to be used to compensate for the loss of water during the refrigerated water generation process.

Products with low water consumption

By reducing water consumption by means of sensors, as well as selecting appropriate parts to save water during drainage

Waste treatment

Sabah AI Salem University City applies a special strategy for waste management, and the waste management building includes two waste sorting facilities; waste management facilities (1) occupy plots No. (803 and 804), while waste management (2) occupies plot No. (810), located outside the ring road in the southern side, with a total area of 80, 183 square meters. Waste management building (1) consists of a ground floor and a lower floor, while waste management bui Iding (2) consists of a ground floor only. The total area of waste management (I) iS about 5,999 square meters, while waste management (2) is approximately 5,999 square meters. Its building area is about 1,283 square meters. Waste management (1) includes all waste, such as food waste and agricultural waste in the campus, while waste management (2) includes sorting and safe disposal of hazardous and biological waste collected from the campus. There is a waste treatment unit in the Series 800 buildings (buildings 803 and 810), during which waste is collected, separated, compressed, and transported to be recycled, Special facilities have been created to separate plastic, paperbiological and hazardous waste from each other.
