To enhance the role of Kuwait University as a healthy university city, the College of Dentistry and the College of Public Health are organizing various activities on Oral Health Awareness Day

Under the patronage of the President  of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, the College of Dentistry organized the "Kuwait Smiles" event to celebrate Oral Health Awareness Day at the lobby of the College of Life Sciences, with the participation of the College of Public Health, which also celebrated World Health Day. 
In this regard, the Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Rashid Al-Azmi, stated that this event, organized by the Department of Preventive Sciences and Growth and Development, is part of the college's social responsibility to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining oral health to prevent dental and gum diseases, as well as other related health issues
He further mentioned that the college had previously organized similar events at the Medical Sciences Center in Jabriya and The Avenues Mall
Dr. Al-Azmi explained that the event provides a golden opportunity to correct misconceptions and harmful habits prevalent among many people regarding how to maintain the health of teeth and gums. Additionally, it includes a field examination of the teeth and gums by students to detect any visible or potential cavities, as well as gum assessments.
For her part, Dr. Wadha Al-Fawzan, the Acting Dean of the College of Public Health, clarified that this joint event between the two colleges is based on the principle of "prevention is better than cure" and community responsibility. She emphasized that the Sabah Al-Salem University City is considered one of the health cities in Kuwait, making it necessary to provide a healthy environment for its members, including students and faculty members, both academic and administrative. She expressed her happiness with the collaboration between the students of the two colleges in raising health awareness during this health day event.
Meanwhile, Dr. Asma Al-Yahya, the Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, stated that the College of Dentistry is keen on organizing this event annually for students in the clinical years (fifth, sixth, and seventh), aiming to train students on how to communicate with different segments of society and spread health awareness among them.


Dr. Al-Yahya revealed that the Oral Health Awareness event also included a scientific competition among students. The winners were: from the fifth-year students, Fatima Al-Anezi, Sana Qureshi, and Haya Al-Omiri; from the sixth-year students, Doaa Al-Duwaihi, Asmaa Ramadan, and Ali Al-Qalaf, who participated in the smoking awareness group; as well as the healthy diet group, which included from the fifth-year students, Alaa Al-Duwaila, Nora Al-Nimran, and Rawan Al-Otaibi; and from the sixth-year students, Shahd Al-Hajji, Aseel Abu Raziq, and Hoor Al-Nimran.

Dr. Al-Azmi, Dr. Al-Fawzan, and Dr. Al-Yahya expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the event's sponsor, the President of the University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, and to the College of Life Sciences for hosting the event, as well as to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this joint initiative.
