Faculty member at the College of Science Professor Saad Makhseed obtained a patent on the project funded by the KFAS in partnership with Dr. Ali Abdel Rasoul from the Department of Chemistry. The patented project is concerned the manufacture of new compounds with optical properties capable of converting the oxygen molecule into Active molecule capable of killing cancer cells and these compounds are called (phthalocyanine).
Professor Makhseed said that this project started with publishing a research paper in a distinguished British scientific journal of the British Royal Society in 2013 and due to the importance of the research, it was chosen as the cover of the journal. He added that he’s currently working on improving the compounds’ ability to reach cancer cells instead of healthy cells. He thanked KFAS for their continuous support for scientific research.
