The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in cooperation with the College of Architecture at Kuwait University, the United Nations Refugee Agency in Kuwait, KFAED, and PACE have launched a competition to design the world’s largest refugee shelter in Bangladesh to host Rohingya refugees.
The Acting Head of the Architecture Department at Kuwait University Dr. Sheikha Al-Mubaraki said that the aim of holding these competitions is to enhance the process of engaging in architectural design, and to integrate this with humanitarian charitable work. She added that volunteering is a fertile field that has no limits and no end, which makes it an outlet to unload the energies of young people in a civilized and scientific way.
Dr. Al-Mubaraki explained that the competition will include 3 winners from the category of students from the College of Architecture, and 3 winners from general participations within Kuwait. The first-place winners will receive a cash prize, in addition to a field visit to Bangladesh; to learn about UNHCR’s activities for Rohingya refugees and its efforts in the field of shelter, sustainability and planning.
