Professor Essa Al-Safran, faculty member at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, received the SPE-International Award for the production and operations category. The award is given by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, which is based in the United States.
A ceremony honoring Prof. Al-Safran was held on Oct. 3rd in Housten, Texas. Professor Al-Safran was awarded for his outstanding contributions to the field of petroleum engineering and his recommendations on improving oil and natural gas production.
It is worth noting that Prof. Al-Safran heads the Petroleum Research Group and Center at the Department of Petroleum Engineering in Kuwait University. He also heads a joint program with the University of Tulsa (Oklahoma), the New Mexico Tech University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He supervises many doctoral and master’s students at these universities. He also published more than 100 academic research papers in international conferences and journals, in addition to working as a consultant for Kuwait Oil Company.
