Kuwait University’s Office of Patents and Intellectual Property, which falls under the Office of the Vice President for Research, registered a new patent with Dr. Bader Shafaqa Al-Enzi, faculty member in the Department of Environmental Technology Management at the College of Life Sciences. Dr. Al-Enzi received a patent from the US Patent Office of the US Department of Commerce.
The President of Kuwait University Professor Yousef Al-Roumi expressed his pride of Kuwait University’s inventors, including Dr. Bader Shafaqa Al-Enzi who presented an invention that contributes to improving the environment in Kuwait.
The Assistant Vice President for External Research Cooperation and Consultations Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra said that Kuwait suffers from water pollution, and Dr. Al-Enzi's invention could be a solution to the issue.
Dr. Bader Al-Enzi said that with the continuous increase in the world’s population, freshwater sources became polluted and more limited. Water scarcity has become a global concern, as access to fresh water suitable for human consumption has become problematic. He explained that his invention is based on devising a hybrid energy and zero-pollution water desalination system. The rejected brine from desalination plants can be diluted with slightly saline water to return it back to the sea or to use in other applications such as the production of green energy.
