Kuwait University’s Ranking Indicators Improve in the QS World University Rankings

Image

Kuwait University promotes the culture of quality and the application of its standards in all academic, research and administrative practices to ensure achieving excellence in scientific research, educational output, and community service.
Kuwait University prioritized quality in its journey, and it seeks to distinguish itself with its excellent graduates (bachelors and graduate studies). It also seeks quality in scientific research, publications, and its financial and administrative technical systems.
It is worth noting that academic ranking is considered a measurement of performance of higher education institutions compared to each other. It is based on the latest practices in education, research, and community service. The universities’ performance is evaluated through measurable criteria which differ according to the type of classification. Academic ranking is important as it serves as an indicator of the institution’s development and its ability to compete with other universities around the world.
The academic ranking of Kuwait University and the work which has been done to improve it is affected by different factors. The work teams which have been established for this purpose were able to deal with several issues. However, many external factors also affect Kuwait University as it is a government university that follows some decisions from the government which may not be in line with some international classification standards.
Kuwait University’s rank is stable at (1001-1200) in the QS World University Ranking (2023 edition, issued 8th June 2022 for the data from the academic year 2020/2021). However, it has made progress in the following sub-indicators of the classification:
Employment Outcomes
International Research Network
International Faculty
Academic Reputation
Employer Reputation
Faculty Student Ratio
Despite all the challenges, Kuwait University is moving forward with addressing deficiencies, improving performance, and participating in international rankings. The university has approved a plan to enhance its ranking in global ranking classifications. Several work teams have been established to propose solutions and initiatives which can enhance the rank, fill in gaps and address deficiencies:
(Admission of foreign students with a tuition fee) team.
(Evaluating the achievements of faculty members) team.
(Methodology of the date required for ranking) team.
(Consolidation of annual ranking reports) team.
(Pride) team to enhance the sense of belonging to the university.
(Expansion of research production) team.
(Enhancing the university’s online presence) team.
The teams have concluded their tasks and submitted a report which will be reviewed by the administration. The necessary corrective steps and remedies will be taken accordingly.
Development and improving quality are tasks which require continuous work, collaboration, time investment and resources. It should be noted that raising performance and improving rank will take time and effort. It should also be noted that the ranking criteria were chosen in a way which allows them to be measured objectively. Therefore, these rankings are part of the truth, but they do not constitute the whole picture.
Ranking should be treated as a motivating factor to improve performance, and not as an end goal. The main goal is sustainable institutional development, which in turn will reflect positively on rankings.
We would like to thank everyone who had a role in Kuwait University’s improvement in the sub-indicators in the QS ranking, from members of the university community, colleges, deanships, and administrations.
