The Vice President for the Health Sciences Center Professor Adel Al-Hunayan received a delegation from the University of Pennsylvania. The delegation included Dr. David Cage, Dr. Jack Andy and Dr. Mawlai Al-Alawi. Dr. Jack Andy gave a lecture titled ‘Teaching Hospitals in the Unites States of America: From Student to Doctor, a Never-Ending Journey’. It was attended by the deans of the Health Sciences Center, the Acting Dean of the College of Medicine Dr. Muna Al-Ahmed, the Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry Dr. Rashed Al-Azmi, the Dean of the College of Public Health Dr. Joseph Longenecker, the Dean of the College of Allied Health Science Dr. Suad Al-Fadhli, and several academics and field specialists.
Professor Al-Hunayan said that the lecture highlighted the role of teaching hospitals, the importance of these hospitals, the administrative system and methods of training. The lecture also provided a comparison between staff trained in a teaching hospital and staff trained in a non-teaching hospital. The results showed that medical care provided by staff trained in teaching hospitals was of higher quality.
Professor Al-Hunayan also added that it is crucial to hold more of these lectures, especially now that the Health Sciences Center is about to establish a teaching hospital in Sabah Al-Salem University City. He said that we must be prepared and have a key role in demanding that a teaching hospital be built before relocating to Sabah Al-Salem University City.
