Publishing Medical Research in the field of Breast Cancer for Women in Kuwait using Mammography

College of Allied Medical Sciences, represented by the Dean of the College, Prof. Suad Muhammad Al-Fadhli, extended its congratulations to Dr. Akram Mahmoud Esbeitah for accepting his research in an international refereed scientific journal, which he conducted with the National Program for Early Detection of Breast Diseases of the Ministry of Health, under the supervision of the Program Director and Head of the Medical Imaging Department at the Amiri Hospital, Clinical Radiology Consultant Dr. Hana Al-Khoury, In addition to as research team consisting of a faculty member In the Department of Community Medicine at the College of Medicine, Dr. Abdullah Al-Majren, along with the Head of the Medical Imaging Department at Al-Adan Hospital, Consultant Radiologist, Dr. Latifa Al-Kandari.
Prof. Suad Al-Fadhli stressed on the importance of this research, which is a source of pride for the College of Allied Health Sciences in particular and the scientific field in Kuwait in general. This field is of importance in accurate and rapid diagnosis and saving patients' lives, which will benefit the future of treatment and diagnosis of patients in the State of Kuwait.
On his part, Dr. Akram Esbeitah stated that the study included 14,773 Kuwaiti women who did not suffer from any symptoms, as they underwent mammography examinations where 4,314 cases were followed up over five years (2014-2019).
The study showed the presence of tumors in 551 cases out of 4314 (3.7%), included 233 malignant tumor cases (42.3%), 57 high-risk cases (10.3%), and 261 benign cases (47.7%).
Dr. Hana Al-Khoury stated that 13.6% of women out of 1000 breast scans were diagnosed with a cancerous tumor, considering that this percentage is high compared to European countries and the United States of America.
The study discussed the most important causes of infection and methods of prevention as well as general advice for all Kuwaiti women in particular and the world in general.
