Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Fayez A. Al-Dhafiri chaired the University Council meeting no. (4/2020) that was held today, October 8th, 2020, in the presence of University Council members at the University Council Hall in Khalidiya.
The meeting began with the memorial of His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may Allah rest his soul. The Acting President mentioned in his speech the initiative of the late Amir, that carried all the meanings of loyalty and gratitude by naming the university city in Shidadiyah after Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah (Sabah Al-Salem University City). The directions of His Highness, may Allah have mercy up on him, were to complete "Sabah Al-Salem University City" project, and the university was always guided by the commands of His Highness. This emphasized the importance of caring for young citizens and providing them with knowledge to achieve the desired development in the country, understanding the country's true wealth and future.
In this regard, Secretary-General of KU, Dr. Muthanna Taleb Al-Rifaie, on behalf of the university family expressed the feelings of sadness and pain of the passing of the Amir, the prince of humanity and its leader. Pointing out that the University Council recalled, in all the meanings of loyalty and gratitude, His Highness’s keenness to meet the outstanding graduates of Kuwait University and sharing the joy of graduation and honor, as His Highness was keen to sponsor and attend the annual honoring ceremony of the graduates of excellence.
This patronage that the University and its members received was a clear indication of the status of this academic organization and the political leadership’s interest and care for its children. It is an honor and appreciating the mission of science, scholars, and the efforts of university academics, and raising the status of excellence to be a motivation for people of Kuwait to build their beloved country.
Dr. Al-Rifaie pointed out that the University Council congratulated His Highness Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may Allah protect him, as the new leader for the country. The Council also congratulated His Highness Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the occasion of naming him the Crown Prince.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Rifaie stated that the university council discussed a number of articles on the agenda during the meeting. Moreover, the University Council confirmed the report of the meeting no. (3/2020) held on September, 22nd, 2020, and reviewed the follow-up report of implementing the Council's decisions of meeting no. (3/2020) held on September, 22nd, 2020.
The Secretary-General also said that the University Council approved the proposal of the Deanship of Admission and Registration regarding the proposed numbers of colleges to accept new students, as it approved the admission of 8,127 students for the academic year 2020/2021, Providing the necessary financial funds availability. The Council also agreed on the Deanship’s proposal regarding the mechanism of new students (high school graduates) distribution to the colleges of the University in the academic year 2020/2021.
He also added that the Council approved the proposal of the Deanship of Admission and Registration to support the required budget for admission, the summer semester, and the additional teaching load. While maintaining the financial transaction regarding financial rewards for teaching and compensating employees in accordance with the approved summer studies regulations when using Distance Education.
Dr. Al-Rifaie mentioned that the Council reviewed the draft budget of Kuwait University for the fiscal year 2021/2022, and the draft budget was approved.
He also referred to the Council’s discussion of a number of other items on the agenda.
