The Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Fayez A. Al-Dhafiri chaired the University Council meeting no. (1/2020). The meeting was held this morning in the presence of the university council members in the university council hall at Khalidiya campus. In this regard, the spokesman of the University, the Secretary General Dr. Muthanna Taleb Al-Refaei stated that the University Council had discussed a number of files during the meeting. He confirmed the report of the meeting (2019/1) held on 28/4/2019. He also reviewed the report on follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Council at its meeting no. (2018/4). He also stated that the council reviewed the final report of the working group applying the provisions of Article (42) of Public Universities Law.
Dr. Al-Refaei added that the University Council thanked the former members of the University Council. Also, they mourned a number of faculty members who passed away during the last period.
Dr. Al-Refaei indicated that the University Council approved the proposed modifications to the academic calendar for the academic year 2019/2020, with the study to resume and complete the second semester on August 9th, 2020.
The council members also approved the academic calendar proposal for the academic year 2020/2021 all university colleges, College of Law, and the Colleges of the Health Science Center.
The Secretary General added that the council approved the proposal of the Deanship of Admission and Registration regarding the basic rules for admission and transfer at Kuwait University for the academic year 2020/2021.
Dr. Al-Refaei stated that the University Council pursued the plan of transition operation of Sabah Al Salem University City. The Higher Committee for follow-up of the transition to Sabah Al-Salem University City was tasked with amending the third stage of the transitional operation plan for the University City, in light of the reports submitted to it from the Construction Program. He pointed out that teaching will continue in laboratories and practical workshops for the Colleges of Science and Engineering and Petroleum at the current locations until the laboratories in Sabah Al-Salem University City are ready.
Dr. Al-Refaei noted that the University Council has approved a proposal by some colleges to promote (38) faculty members for the rank of Professor and Associate Professor from various colleges, (19) faculty members from the Humanities and Social colleges and (19) faculty members from the Scientific colleges, as follows:

Dr. Al-Refaei said that the council agreed to renew the mandate of some faculty members in the external bodies, and discussed a number of topics included in the files of new developments.
