Under the patronage of the Minister of Information Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mr. Mohammed AlJabry and the presence of Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, Mr. Shafiq al-Sayed Omar, representing the Minister. The College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University inaugurated the 36th Engineering Design Exhibition organized by the Engineering Training Center and Alumni with the Support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), during the period from 17-18, June,2019, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - Al Baraka Hall.
In the presence of Kuwait University President Prof. Hussein Al-Ansari, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum Dr. Raed Borsali, the Director of the Department of Scientific Culture at KFAS, Dr. Salam Al-Ablani, Member of the Municipal Council Eng. Maha al-Baghli, faculty members, and visitors from engineering companies and representatives of the sponsors of the exhibition.
In this occasion, the Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs Mr. Shafiq al-Sayed Omar stressed on the importance of this event to the Ministry, so the Youth Authority has been keen to participate since its establishment in order to support the engineers and their wide imagination who need logistical and material support. In fact the Ministry have supported more than 350 youth projects.
Mr. Omar added: “We hope that our Engineers build their own projects because the start is always in a small project but needs to be properly managed to be the businessmen who represent and supervise the country.”
In turn, Kuwait University President Prof. Hussein Al-Ansari expressed his pride in the university students and their distinguished projects that keep pace with the times and put engineering solutions to some problems and year after year, the rate of development in these projects is increasing.
He added that most of the projects this year are basically groups of students who teamed up to create and display the project under the supervision of professors and specialists and these projects reflect the theoretical courses and focus on the practical side in the curricula of the College of Engineering and Petroleum.
For his part, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum Dr. Raed Borsali expressed his pleasure at the opening of the exhibition for the first time. He expressed his pride in the creative ideas presented by the students in the graduation projects, pointing out that this exhibition is an opportunity to highlight the achievements of the scientific students and to document their accomplishments during their studies.
The Director of Scientific Culture Department at the KFAS, Dr. Salam Al-Ablani, said that it is customary for the Foundation to support young people, especially those immersed in the fields of science and technology. One of the strategic goals and objectives of the Foundation is to support youth and different sectors in Kuwait by adopting logical thinking and adopting problem solving in a scientific manner as there is no better solution than supporting the activities that lead to this.
Dr. Bader Al-Busairi, Director of Engineering Training and Alumni at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, said that the Engineering Design Exhibition held by the College at the end of each semester is a unique opportunity for the students to present their innovative designs and represents a valuable opportunity for the faculty to present the potential of their students.
He pointed that the exhibition included designs of graduation projects from all scientific departments of the college for 440 students who presented 120 projects, With the encouraging participation of the other associate departments which are related to the College of Engineering and Petroleum as the Engineering Training Center and the Information Systems Department in the College of Computer Science and Engineering and the College of Architecture.
In conclusion, he thanked all sponsoring companies and institutions for their support to achieve its objectives by holding this exhibition and other events, especially Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) .
