The Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education chaired the meeting of the University Council

His Excellency the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and the Supreme President of the University, Dr. Hamed Mohammed Al-Azmi, chaired the meeting of the University Council No. (2019/1) on Sunday morning, 28/4/2019, In the presence of the President of Kuwait University Prof. Hussein Ahmed Al-Ansari, and members of the University Council in the Hall of the University Council in Alkhaldiya Campus.
The Spokesman for Kuwait University, the Secretary General of the University Dr. Muthanna Taleb Al-Rifai, said that the Council of the University discussed a number of files during the meeting. He confirmed the report of the meeting (2018/4) held on 28/4/2019. He also reviewed the report on follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Council at its meeting No.( 2018/4).
Dr. Al-Rifai pointed out that the University Council discussed a number of articles, including the proposal of the Deanship of Admission and Registration regarding the number of seats for Kuwaiti students and students of Kuwaiti mothers for the academic year 2019/2020. The admission of (6315) new students for the academic year 2019/2020, Distributed to various university colleges.
The University Council also decided to form a committee to develop Kuwait University's strategy and draw up the admission policy and specializations required according to the needs of the labor market and the vision of Kuwait for the year 2035. The committee will include members from Kuwait University and other concerned bodies outside the university (Civil Service Bureau- General Secretariat for Planning - Manpower and Government Restructuring Program).
He added that the Council had taken cognizance of the initial concept of exploiting the land of Sabah Al Ahmad Residential City. The Council recommended that the new university site be used in the city of Sabah Al Ahmad to meet the needs of the residents of the city and the surrounding areas, And to refer the report of the committee formed to the committee to develop the university strategy to study it and to give an opinion on the required specialties.
The university council also reviewed the current situation of the achievement rates and the initial receiving dates for the faculties buildings, stressing their readiness in terms of Power supply to the sites planned to be operated according to the transition plan, The Council was also informed of Kuwait University's preparations for the transition process and the operation of the faculties while providing the required services of security, safety and cleanliness immediately after receipt.
The University Council had been briefed on the academic accreditation of the Faculty of Medicine at Kuwait University in coordination with the National Agency for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (ECFMG).
Dr. Al-Rifai said that the University Council reviewed the study submitted by the Association of faculty members on increasing the salaries of faculty members and the academic support committee. A committee was formed to study the proposal submitted with the competent authorities and take the views of the concerned bodies.
Dr. Al-Rifai also mentioned that the university council approved the proposal of some colleges to upgrade (21) faculty members to the rank of professor and assistant professor from different faculties, (19) from humanities and social colleges and (2) from practical colleges.
