The Deanship of Admission and Registration at Kuwait University held a press conference regarding the admission requirements for high school graduates wishing to join Kuwait University at the Deanship of Admissions and Registration Building at Shuwaikh campus.
The Acting Dean of Admission and Registration at Kuwait University, Dr. Reem A. AlJarallah, announced during the press conference that the application process for the academic year 2018/2019 will begin electronically for Kuwaiti students, children of Kuwaiti mothers, GCC nationals and stateless students, American system high schools, British system high schools, Institute for Religious Studies are expected to graduate from Sunday, June 13th to Thursday, July 5th, 2018.
She added that Kuwaiti and children of Kuwaiti mothers who graduated from outside Kuwait, as well as other non-Kuwaiti students who are allowed to apply to the university, will apply for admission at the Admission and Registration Hall in Shuwaikh on the dates specified in the attached time plan.
Applications are submitted through the electronic admissions system at http://portal.ku.edu.kw/admission.
Dr. AlJarallah explained that the results of the Academic Aptitude Exams that was held on May 5th 2018 will be submitted before the start of the application period so that the student will be able to find out the . The results of admission will be announced within three days of the application deadline.
Dr. AlJarallah clarified that transferred students from other universities and faculties of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training to Kuwait University can apply from 19/6 and continues until 9/8/2018.
She noted that all instructions for acceptance and study at the university and the required documents are available on the Deanship of Admission and Registration website and Kuwait University’s website in addition to the acceptance guide and the directory of colleges and the student guide issued by the Deanship for distribution to students.
The Acting Dean of Admission and Registration stated that the minimum percentage for the Kuwaiti and children of Kuwaiti mothers are 70% or 2.50 points for the scientific section and 78% or 2.90 points for the literary section. The University council has decided to accept Kuwaiti and children of Kuwaiti mothers who meet the admission requirements for the academic year 2018 / 2019 divided into the first and second semesters according to the order of their desires, provided that the minimum number of admissions for the first semester is not less than 75% for the scientific section, 80% for the literary section and the rest for the second semester.
Those who wish to apply to the university must comply with these minimum percentage and all other admission requirements stated on the Deanship of Admissions and Registration web page.
Dr. AlJarallah pointed out that according to the basic rules of admission and the continuation of what has been applied at the university for several years, applications for stateless students who are not children of Kuwaiti mothers to provide a valid original security card and by obtaining a minimum of 90% in the certificate for the scientific and literary sections. Note that a person who has been placed in this category is allowed to apply to the university after providing the Central System for the Remedy of situations of Illegal Residents.
For non-Kuwaiti students, admission and transfer rules determine the categories and numbers allowed to apply to the University for each category. These data are available in the Admission guide and on the University's website.
Dr. AlJarallah clarified that by applying instant admission system for study majors, the total number of requests reached 77 for graduates of scientific department and 36 for literary section graduates. Noting that the student must apply for university admission during the period specified for the submission of applications and the order of the majors listed in the application must meet the minimum percentage for each major according to student preference. The student has the freedom to choose the number of desires, although it is possible to reject the application if all the wishes are not selected.
She pointed out that no amendment to the specializations specified in the application will be allowed after the end of submission period, resulting in applying for the next semester for rejected student.
Dr. AlJarallah stated that there are certain minimum percentages for Kuwaiti and children of Kuwaiti mothers students with special needs who meet the conditions stipulated in the basic rules of admission and transfer for the academic year 2018/2019, 72% for the literary section and 65% for the scientific section. The student must present in his papers a valid disability certificate from The Public Authority of The Disabled. These students are required to refer to admission and registration hall during the official working hours to apply for admission to university for the next semester.
Dr. Reem AlJarallah explained that students who will be admitted to foreign or internal scholarship must specify whether they want to continue the scholarship or join Kuwait University where they are required to withdraw their papers from the scholarship before the end of the application period at Kuwait University.
The acting Dean of Admissions and Registration confirmed that the Deanship is continuing to use the number 1866000 as a hotline for any freshmen queries during the period Thursday 13 June 2018 to Thursday 5 July 2018 and the service is available 24 hours a day.
For her part, Director of Admissions Department Hind Al-Salem said that since the second round exams are held before the end of the admissions period, and for the interest of these students not to delay their enrollment in the next semester, the students who meet the requirements will be allowed to apply for admission with photocopy of their temporary high school certificates directly in the admission and registration hall in Shuwaikh, and they have to submit their final certificate before the end of the working day on 26/7/2018.
The Director of Admissions Department stated that students of English high schools who are expected to graduate in the summer semester must apply electronically to the university within the specified dates, and then submit their final results within two working days after their graduation date, so that their specialization in the university can be determined and their registration will be completed. Stressing that the opportunity of these students is equal with their colleagues who applied for enrollment during the period of submission.
Al-Salem confirmed that acceptance in all university majors is done according to the equivalent percentage except for majors of the Faculty of Science, and that the equivalent rate is calculated according to specific ratios that differ from one faculty to another in light of the student's results in the high school certificate and results of academic aptitude exams.
At the conclusion of the conference, Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration at Kuwait University Dr. Reem Abdullah AlJarallah invited all applicants to the university to review the instructions provided by the university either on the Internet or In the Rules of Admission and Transfer for the academic year 2018/2019, And the need to strictly adhere to deadlines for applications.
