The Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University hosted Prof. Al-Azhar Bin Yahya from Le Mans University in France for a week from May 19 to May 23, 2024.
Professor Bin Yahya works in the field of soft materials science and engineering, and has many international achievements including more than 100 scientific articles, 4 patents, and 4 chapters in scientific books. He also established many collaborations with international universities and companies in Brazil, America, England, East Asia among other countries. He is one of the most prominent scientists in the field of rheology in France, where he worked as president of the Association of Rheologists.
Visiting Prof. Al-Azhar Bin Yahya visited the Deanship of the College of Engineering and Petroleum as well as the Department of Chemical Engineering, touring the research laboratories of the department to provide his support. Prof. Bin Yahya also presented a seminar titled "How to design multi-responsive water/water emulsions?", and another seminar titled "Plic! Ploc! The impact of a water droplet in a complex fluid bath: between acoustics, hydrodynamics and physiochemistry" for faculty members and engineers at the Chemical Engineering Department. He also seized this opportunity to meet with graduate students at the Department to supervise their research, in addition to attending two collaborative research meetings.
The aim of this visit is to create a bond with Kuwait University and establish future cooperation grounds with the College of Engineering
and Petroleum, and to present new topics while widening the horizons for research in chemical engineering in order to benefit Kuwait University in specific, and the State of Kuwait in general. This is Prof. Al-Azhar Bin Yahya's first visit to Kuwait, initiating many ensuing future visits.
In conclusion, Prof. Al-Azhar Bin Yahya was honored by the Head of Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Osama Al-Rashid. A memento photo of Prof. Bin Yahya's later seminar with graduate students from the Department of Chemical Engineering was taken, with the presence of Dr. Jasim Ahmad and Prof. Abdulwahab Al-Musallam.
