On the occasion of the visit by a delegation from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Kuwait, a meeting was held chaired by Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs Mr. Khalid Al-Zaabi. The meeting brought together representatives from Kuwait University, specifically College of Science, and the NASA delegation.
The meeting included representatives from Kuwait University; Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Graduate Studies; Prof. Suzanne Al-Bustan, Acting Head of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences; Dr. Feryal Bourbeau, and Acting Head of the Physics Department and Director of the National Project for the First Kuwaiti Educational Satellite KuwaitSat-1; Dr. Hala Al-Jassar. From NASA, the attendees included Casey Swails, Deputy Associate Administrator, and Katherine Hamilton, the Public Affairs Officer, along with several members of the U.S. Embassy and representatives from relevant Kuwaiti institutions.
The meeting aimed to discuss Kuwait's interests in space and the possibility of cooperation in the field of space between Kuwait and the United States.
During the meeting, the U.S. space policy was presented, and a discussion was held to understand the Kuwaiti entities' perspectives on space projects, as well as ways to develop Kuwait's space policy.
The discussion also addressed opportunities for collaboration between NASA and relevant Kuwaiti entities, where the Kuwait National Center for Space Research, which was announced under the royal decree by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mashal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, will serve as the point of contact for cooperation between NASA and relevant Kuwaiti entities.
