College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University Hosts the 50th Conference on Women's Empowerment Titled "Local and Regional Initiatives for Human Rights Protection: Issues and Solutions."
Al-Sabah: The conference aims to create a platform for constructive dialogue on ways to develop the concept of human rights at both the local and regional levels.
Al-Quood: The Outstanding Initiative Award for Arab States to encourage human rights initiatives is one of the most fruitful recommendations of the conference.

In affirmation of its pioneering role in supporting initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of human rights, the 50th Conference organized by the College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University commenced under the patronage of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the International Women's Empowerment and Capacity Building Organization. The conference, themed "Local and Regional Initiatives for Human Rights Protection: Issues and Solutions," will be held over two days, Sunday and Monday, October 13 and 14, 2024, at the Conference Center in Sabah Al-Salem University City.
The event will be attended by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Office and the Honorary President of the conference, Her Excellency Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ebrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, the President of the International Women's Empowerment and Capacity Building Organization and the Secretary-General of the conference, Ms. Ibtisam Al-Quood, and the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Ali Zaid Al-Zoubi, along with several ambassadors from neighboring countries. It will also feature participation from a select group of experts, academics, and researchers from Gulf and Arab countries, as well as representatives from civil society organizations and international bodies concerned with human rights.
At the outset, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Office and the Honorary President of the conference, Her Excellency Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ebrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' sponsorship of this conference reflects its ongoing commitment to promoting human rights principles and creating a platform for constructive dialogue on ways to develop them at both local and regional levels. She noted that this sponsorship emphasized Kuwait's central role in supporting initiatives aimed at spreading a culture of human rights and enhancing regional and international cooperation.
Her Excellency added that the conference aims to discuss the key challenges facing the implementation of human rights standards in the region and to showcase local and regional initiatives aimed at enhancing them. This will involve the participation of a distinguished group of experts, academics, and researchers from Gulf and Arab countries, along with representatives from civil society organizations and international bodies concerned with human rights.
For her part, the President of the International Women's Empowerment and Capacity Building Organization, Ms. Ibtisam Al-Quood, and the Secretary-General of the conference, affirmed that this conference is the result of a genuine partnership between civil society organizations and educational institutions. She noted that this gathering at Kuwait University presents a valuable opportunity to enhance the concept of human rights and discuss successful initiatives in various Arab and regional countries, as well as to benefit from shared experiences and apply them in our communities. She added that one of the conference's objectives is to produce recommendations aimed at strengthening the concept of human rights through the Outstanding Initiative Award for Arab States, which encourages initiatives in human rights for all segments of society, including children, women, and people with disabilities, in addition to holding a number of accredited training workshops for all participants.
For his part, the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University, Prof. Ali Al-Zoubi, stated, "On my behalf and on behalf of the Acting University President, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, we welcome you to Kuwait University, this national academic institution that represents a beacon of knowledge. We are honored to host the 50th conference organized by the College of Social Sciences in collaboration with the International Women's Empowerment and Capacity Building Organization titled 'Local and Regional Initiatives for Protection.'” He emphasized that Kuwait University takes pride in its ongoing partnership and continuous communication with state institutions, whether in the public or private sector.
Prof. Al-Zoubi pointed out that the conference aimed at supporting local and regional initiatives, which include highly significant experiences in developing national civil work for both state institutions and civil society organizations. He emphasized the need to develop effective visions that can overcome any issues or obstacles in the field of human rights. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its active role in strengthening community initiatives related to human rights, making these initiatives a cornerstone for creating an effective society in addressing human rights issues on one hand, and contributing to the development of sound societal trends in this field on the other.
At the conclusion of the conference, the following individuals were honored: the Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Office and the Honorary President of the conference, Her Excellency Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ebrahim Duaij Al-Sabah; the President of the International Women’s Empowerment and Capacity Building Organization and the Secretary-General of the conference, Ms. Ibtisam Al-Quood; and the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Ali Zaid Al-Zoubi, for their fruitful efforts in supporting and ensuring the success of the conference.
The conference also included several training workshops and discussion sessions with the participation of members of the academic staff from Kuwait University, as well as a number of experts and consultants at both local and regional levels.
