Promoting the Concept of Sports for All and with the Participation of more than 3000 Participants
Sabah Al-Salem University City Hosts the Second Edition of Kuwait University Marathon
In a festive sporting atmosphere, and under the generous patronage of Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, the Deanship of Student Affairs organized the second edition of Kuwait University Marathon for the academic year 2024/2025 on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Sabah Al-Salem University City, with the attendance and participation of more than 3,000 male and female competitors of different ages and categories, whether from inside or outside the university, in addition to a distinguished presence of the families of the participants and the sports audience. The event was organized by the Sports Activities Department in the Deanship of Student Affairs, in partnership with the Public Authority for Sports and several supporting entities, including the Public Relations and Media Department, the Security and Safety Department, the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences, Visions Company, and the Ambition Sports Club for the Intellectually Disabled.
The marathon was attended by Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Jassem Al-Hamdan, and the Vice Dean of Student Activities, Dr. Salem Al-Shammari, who expressed their pride in the continued success of this sporting event. Running enthusiasts, including people with disabilities, also participated in the marathon, making it a comprehensive sporting experience.
The marathon activities started at 7:00 am with warm-up exercises, followed by the men’s race, then the women’s race, and finally the race for people with disabilities. The sports jerseys for the competitors were distributed three days prior to the event at the Visitors’ Center at Sabah Al-Salem University City, to ensure perfect organization.
The second edition of the marathon featured accompanying events, including exciting sports shows, various entertainment competitions, performances by the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences band, in addition to a military parade. A children’s play area and carts serving coffee and healthy food were also available at the event.
During the event, valuable prizes were drawn, while the value of the prizes presented to the marathon winners amounted to more than 6,000 Kuwaiti dinars, sponsored by the Commercial Bank of Kuwait and supported by the Public Authority for Sports. Medals of appreciation were distributed to the participants, in a festive atmosphere that filled the audience with a spirit of competition and joy.
Winners and first places
The results of the races were announced after the competitors completed 5 kilometers, and the most prominent results were as follows:
• Kuwait University affiliates category (18-35 years): First place Noura Abdullah, second place Thamara Al-Shalal, and third place Batoul Bou Abbas.
• Kuwait University affiliates category (36 years and above): First place Rawan Eidan, second place Farah Al-Suwailem, and third place Maha Al-Qaoud.
• Men from outside the university category (18-35 years): First place Yamani Al-Hamr, second place Abdullah Younis, and third place Hamid Al-Janati.
All participants with disabilities were also honored with medals and appreciation awards from Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Youth.
At the end of the event, Vice Dean for Student Activities Dr. Salem Al-Shammari expressed his joy with the success of the marathon, emphasizing that the main objective is to motivate the university community to practice sports and adopt a healthy lifestyle. He also pointed out that the marathon contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development, including increasing the rate of physical activity to 40%, within the framework of Kuwait Vision 2035.
Dr. Al-Shammari thanked the supporting entities that contributed to the success of the event, including all private companies, and sports and academic institutions, praising everyone’s efforts in delivering an exceptional sports experience.

The marathon was concluded amidst applause and encouragement from the audience, who commended the efforts dedicated to organizing a high-level sporting event, reflecting Kuwait University’s commitment to its social role in promoting sports and public health for all.
