Prof. Al-Saeed:

• Kuwait University took initiative to adopt sustainability standards in line with its responsibility towards protecting the environment, reducing energy consumption, conserving natural resources, and increasingly reliance on renewable energy sources.
• Sabah Al-Salem University City has a high density and receives nearly 50,000 students daily, in addition to academic and administrative staff.
Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, His Excellency Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Al-Jalal, and the representative of Regional Director of World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Asad Hafeez, Kuwait University received certification accrediting Sabah Al-Salem University City as a Healthy University City from the Healthy Cities Office. The event was attended by His Excellency Governor of the Capital, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, His Excellency the Governor of Farwaniya, Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, His Excellency the Governor of Jahra, Mr. Hamad Jassim Al-Habshi, His Excellency the Governor of Ahmadi, Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed. The ceremony took place on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Al-Danah Hall in Sabah Al-Salem University City.
With this achievement, Kuwait University becomes the first health-promoting university in Kuwait, in line with "Kuwait 2035" vision for sustainable development and a healthy environment.
Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, expressed his happiness with the accreditation of Sabah Al-Salem University City as a health city by WHO, emphasizing Kuwait University's commitment to promoting community partnerships. He highlighted the constructive results of these efforts for both individuals and society, which are now being reaped.
He added that Sabah Al-Salem University City is considered a new city, hosting nearly 50,000 students daily from 7 AM to 4 PM, in addition to the academic and administrative staff. The city also receives over 50,000 cars every day, making it a high-density area. Achieving 110 points, the required score by the WHO for accreditation as a health city, is a remarkable accomplishment. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health and the dedicated work of the team.
He further stated that this achievement is the culmination of Kuwait University's efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals. During the design and implementation phase, the goal was to make the new campus at Sabah Al-Salem University City a model for educational, social, and developmental environments. The university took initiative to adopt sustainability standards in response to its responsibility for protecting the environment, reducing energy consumption, conserving natural resources, and increasingly relying on renewable energy sources.
Kuwait University has also contributed to various aspects of health development by providing university clinics, promoting awareness of healthy lifestyles, developing an emergency preparedness and response plan, and encouraging community participation.
