The Informative Meeting for the Innovation Challenge Competition was held at the College of Science at Kuwait University, one of the competitions of Kuwait National Robotics Championship, which is held and organized by the Department of Computer Science in cooperation with the Public Authority for Youth and the Ministry of Education for high school students and ninth grade - intermediate stage - with the attendance of 15 schools. Dr. Noura Al-Jari, Executive Director of the Championship, stated that the Informative Meeting for the Innovation Challenge Competition was held to introduce participants to the competition and how it is conducted, and to familiarize them with the requirements of the competition and the basics on which it is built. Dr. Noura added that training and preparations are ongoing to prepare students for the February qualifiers, which will qualify them for the global competition next April.
Dr. Ashraf Radwan, Director of the Innovation Challenge Competition, added that the competition is a set of integrated sciences that range from introducing students to programming, electronics, and artificial intelligence, in addition to laser cutting applications and the use of 3D printing. Dr. Ashraf also noted that the meetings will be periodic to facilitate following up on the development of special skills and creative skills in production, especially by taking on special projects in the fields of infrastructure, health, and technology, in addition to other various fields.
He also added that the Innovation Challenge Competition aims to support students during the training period to produce models that will be displayed at the February exhibition.
Another introductory meeting was held for the participants in the drone competition within the Kuwait National Robotics Championship competitions, and it is the first introductory session for the Aerial Drone Competition, in the presence of Acting Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Mohammad Bin Sabt, and Acting Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Zaid Dashti, in addition to the general supervisor of the competition, Ms. Hanaa Al-Mutairi. This competition is the first of its kind in Kuwait, as it targets student teams from the intermediate stage, with the aspiration to expand participation to include high school teams next year.
During the session, Ms. Hanaa Al-Mutairi presented a comprehensive presentation on the rules and elements of the game and explained how to score the highest points in the competition. The details of the game were also reviewed, as well as how to direct and navigate drones between obstacles, and how to collect points through specific tasks, while ensuring adherence to the time allocated for each round. The importance of precise control, high concentration, and cooperation between team members to achieve success was also highlighted.
The meeting witnessed great interaction from the students, as they presented many questions and inquiries regarding the competition mechanism and how to improve their performance. A short practical workshop was organized to introduce students on how to use drones and master the required tasks.
This competition is considered a distinctive addition to the series of national robotics championships, reflecting Kuwait University's commitment to developing an innovative educational environment that combines technology and creativity, which contributes to preparing a generation of youth capable of facing future challenges with efficiency and confidence.
