Kuwait University Council Holds Meeting Under the Chairmanship of Acting President Prof. Osama Al-Saeed

Kuwait University Council held its meeting (No. 05/2024) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the University Council meeting hall in Sabah Al-Salem University City, chaired by Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, Acting President of Kuwait University. The meeting was attended by the council members, where several key items were discussed.
Key Decisions Taken During the Meeting:
•    Approval of the Annual Scholarship Plan for the academic year 2024/2025.
•    Approval of the College of Graduate Studies' memo regarding the announcement, application conditions, and expected number of students to be admitted for the academic year 2025/2026.
•    Approval of the College of Graduate Studies' memo to allocate one seat for students with disabilities in each graduate program.
•    Approval of the guidelines for paying allowances to psychologists and social workers involved in field training of students from the College of Social Sciences and master's students from the College of Graduate Studies.
•    Approval of the promotion of several faculty members to the rank of Professor and Associate Professor in both the applied and humanities colleges.
Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, initiated the meeting by welcoming the attendees and introducing the agenda items. The council then ratified the minutes of meeting (No. 04/2024), held on September 26, 2024.
In a statement following the meeting, Prof. Mishari Al-Aifan, Acting Secretary-General and Spokesperson for Kuwait University, mentioned that the council approved the annual scholarship plan for the academic year 2024/2025. The council also approved a memorandum of understanding between Kuwait University and Swansea University in the United Kingdom, as well as a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Health and Kuwait University – College of Life Sciences.
The council additionally approved the College of Graduate Studies' memo regarding the announcement, application conditions, and expected number of students to be admitted for the academic year 2025/2026, as well as the number of graduate scholarships available for that year.
Furthermore, a visual presentation was given to the council on Kuwait University's annual report for the academic year 2022/2023, as well as the proposed policies to improve the university’s ranking in global rankings, and the annual report of the Scientific Publishing Council for the academic year 2023/2024.
Prof. Al-Aifan added that the council approved a proposal concerning the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy for Kuwait University, taking into account feedback from some colleges.
The council also approved a memo to amend Article 18/10 of the College of Graduate Studies' regulations regarding grading scales and course re-evaluations, which will be implemented starting the first semester of the academic year 2024/2025.
Moreover, the council approved a memo amending Article 34/7/b, c of the College of Graduate Studies' regulations regarding doctoral theses, with the amendment to be applied starting the first semester of the academic year 2024/2025.
The council also agreed with the College of Graduate Studies' proposal to allocate one seat for students with disabilities in each graduate program and to cancel the 10% language test allowance previously granted to students with disabilities.
Furthermore, the council approved the guidelines for the payment of allowances to psychologists and social workers who conduct field training for students at the College of Social Sciences and master's students from the College of Graduate Studies', as per the recommendation of the Financial Affairs Department. These allowances will be applicable across all three academic terms (fall, spring, and summer), starting from the academic year 2023/2024, provided that financial approval is presented.
The council also approved the appointment and promotion of the following academic staff members to the positions specified next to their names. Several faculty members were promoted to higher ranks.
