The Criminal Law Department at the College of Law organized a symposium entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Investigation" Presented by visiting professor from the Sharjah Academy for Police Sciences, Major General Dr. Ashraf Qandil, in the presence of Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Muhammad Al-Tamimi, Acting Head of Criminal Law Department Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri, Assistant Director General for Academic Affairs Brigadier Salem Ashour, Director of the Center for Quality Control, Scientific Research and Training Brigadier Muhammad Al-Samhan, and a faculty member at the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences Dr. Salah Al-Shammari. The Symposium was held at the College of Law campus in Shuwaikh.
Dr. Ashraf Qandil first mentioned that criminal investigation consists of a set of procedures and means taken by the competent authorities to prevent crime and track down its perpetrators to provide sufficient evidence in order initiate prosecution and investigation. He further added that field and analytical activity focuses on investigating information and evidence related to the crime with the aim of reaching factual truth by analyzing evidence and information to determine the identity of the perpetrator.
Dr. Qandil pointed out that artificial intelligence contributes to criminal investigation in visual data and information, as well as readable data and information, explaining that 62 million videos are watched on TikTok application, 3 billion snaps are created on Snapchat, and 23 million emails are sent per minute.
