Kuwait University’s Graduate Studies College Announces Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on April 24

Prof. Ahmad Abdullah Al-Mekhyal, Acting Dean of the College of Graduate Studies at Kuwait University, announced the launch of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition under the patronage of University President, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem. This marks the first time the competition will be held locally at Kuwait University, and it is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Sabah Al-Salem University City. A group of outstanding students will be selected to participate in this distinguished event.
Prof. Al-Mekhyal explained that students can apply by submitting a short 3-minute video in Arabic or English summarizing their thesis or dissertation. Videos should be sent to the following email: dpd@grad.ku.edu.kw. The submissions will be reviewed by the Graduate Program Committees, and the best applicants will be selected to move on to the final live presentations on the competition day.
He also outlined the official 3MT competition rules, as follows:
1.    Only one static PowerPoint slide is allowed (no transitions, animations, or movement of any kind) and must be submitted at the start of the presentation.
2.    No additional electronic media (audio/video files) are permitted.
3.    No props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments, lab equipment) may be used.
4.    Presentations must not exceed three minutes—those who exceed this limit will be disqualified.
5.    The presentation must be spoken word only (no poems, songs, or raps).
6.    Presentations must be delivered live from the stage.
7.    Presentations must be balanced and non-commercial in nature.
8.    The presentation officially begins when the speaker starts speaking or moving.
9.    Judging decisions are final.
10.    The presentation language must be either Arabic or English.
Prof. Al-Mekhyal confirmed that the application deadline is Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and students must attach their video with their submission. Eligible participants include graduates from academic years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, as well as continuing students who submitted Form AC6 before March 1, 2025.
He also noted that monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three winners (First, Second, and Third Place), and they will be given priority to represent Kuwait University in upcoming Gulf-wide and international 3MT competitions.
