Kuwait University Faculty Association Hosts Annual Ramadan “Ghabga” Under the Theme: "A Gesture of Gratitude for The Ones Who Deserve Recognition"

Under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Abdullah Al-Jalal, and President of Kuwait University, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, the Social Committee of the Kuwait University Faculty Association organized its annual Ramadan “Ghabga” on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Waldorf Astoria Hotel – The Avenues, under the theme “A Gesture of Gratitude for The Ones Who Deserve Recognition.”
The event, held in the spirit of fostering unity among members of the academic community, was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Osama Shaltout, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, former Kuwait University presidents, former presidents of the Faculty Association, academic staff, supporting faculty, and a distinguished gathering of professors and scholars. The event was generously sponsored by Kuwait Finance House and Freej Al-Suwaileh.
On this occasion, Dr. Noura Al-Otaibi, Chair of the Social Committee and Master of Ceremonies, expressed her joy in organizing such gatherings that bring together academics and professors as one united academic family to exchange greetings and celebrate achievements. She emphasized that academic leadership is not a title, but a legacy marked by service to knowledge and the nation.
Dr. Bader Al-Azmi, President of the Faculty Association, affirmed that the annual Ghabga has become a cherished tradition, reflecting the association’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting social connection, especially in an age dominated by digital communication. He explained that the association chose to honor a distinguished group of Kuwait University leaders, emphasizing the Faculty Association’s direct role in addressing university issues by working closely with the administration and government ministries through the submission of various proposals. He underlined that success can only be achieved through collective effort, dedication, and unified vision.
Representing former Kuwait University presidents, Prof. Faiza Al-Kharafi shared, “I was honored to work alongside my colleagues for nine years marked by dedication, collaboration, and harmony. It was a pivotal chapter in my life that reinforced the strength of academic bonds and contributed to the service of this esteemed institution.” She noted that administration evolves in stages, each with its own challenges, but teamwork ensures success and achievement in serving the interests of students and the university. She also commended the Faculty Association for its advisory role and constructive contributions.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Muhaini, speaking on behalf of former Faculty Association heads, stated, “During my 36-year academic journey at this institution, I had the privilege of working with an exceptional group of Kuwait University leaders who made significant contributions toward achieving the university’s goals.” He emphasized that Kuwait University has consistently upheld academic values and achieved notable academic milestones, making it one of the most successful institutions in Kuwait, capable of competing globally thanks to the joint efforts of both academic and supporting faculty. He concluded by expressing his pride and joy in this Ramadan gathering and the spiritual atmosphere it offered.
The ceremony concluded with Prof. Nader Al-Jalal and Prof. Dina Al-Mailem honoring former Kuwait University presidents from the university’s founding in 1966 till present day, along with former presidents of the Faculty Association, retirees, and the event’s sponsors, including Mohammed Al-Fares, Executive Director of Media and Government Relations and representative of Kuwait Finance House, and Freej Al-Suwaileh. This tribute marked an expression of appreciation for all who have contributed to the advancement of knowledge and service to the nation.
