Kuwait University Hosts Minister of Information and Culture in Symposium on "The National Cultural Strategy in Light of Kuwait as Capital of Arab Culture and Arab Media for 2025" Affirming the University’s Pioneering Role

Affirming the University’s Pioneering Role in Strengthening Kuwait’s Cultural and Media Leadership

 

The Cultural Committee of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Kuwait University, represented by the committee rapporteur Prof. Nouria Al-Roumi, hosted H.E. Mr. Abdulrahman Bedah Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture, for a symposium titled:
“The National Cultural Strategy in Light of Kuwait as Capital of Arab Culture and Arab Media for 2025”.
The event was held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the College of Arts Theater in Sabah Al-Salem University City.


The symposium was attended by H.E. Prof. Nader Al-Jalal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dina Musaed Al-Mailem, President of Kuwait University, Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters, and Prof. Moudhi Al-Humoud, Chairperson of the Founding Council of Abdullah Al-Salem University, along with several leaders and senior officials from Kuwait University.
Prof. Nouria Al-Roumi welcomed the audience and expressed her delight at Kuwait being named the Capital of Arab Culture and Arab Media, noting the significance of the designation aligning with the Qurain Cultural Festival and national celebrations.
In his keynote address, H.E. Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi expressed pride in this international recognition of Kuwait, emphasizing that Kuwait University stands as a cultural and academic beacon, having produced pioneering figures in various cultural fields who have become foundational pillars of Kuwait’s cultural identity. He noted that the national media strategy was shaped through the insights of experienced cultural figures as well as the vision of the youth, in order to reflect Kuwait’s contemporary cultural landscape and represent the full spectrum of society.


The Minister further explained that Kuwait’s selection as Capital of Arab Culture and Arab Media was based on clear criteria measuring the country’s infrastructure, readiness to host major events, and the quality of its cultural and media programming—criteria in which Kuwait excelled unanimously, by the grace of Allah.


On this occasion, Prof. Dina Al-Mailem, President of Kuwait University, delivered a welcoming speech in which she expressed her pride in Kuwait earning this prestigious title. She stated:
“This achievement is a source of pride for all of us and a testament to our pioneering role. It reflects the contributions of Kuwait University in preparing highly qualified media professionals for various sectors of the country.”


She extended her thanks to H.E. the Minister for sharing and discussing the national media strategy with the academic community, stressing that such forums strengthen collaboration among state institutions and support national development.


At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Dina Al-Mailem, together with Prof. Nouria Al-Roumi, honored both H.E. Mr. Abdulrahman Bedah Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture, and H.E. Prof. Nader Al-Jalal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in appreciation of their participation and contribution to the symposium.
