Youth Public Authority launches the Kuwait Debate Project in partnership with Kuwait University
Youth Public Authority launched the Kuwait Debate Project in partnership with Kuwait University, several state institutions, and civil society organizations. The aim is to unify efforts in organizing activities and competitions that enhance the development of persuasion skills, critical thinking, analytical skills, and scientific research among youth of various age groups.
In this context, Acting Deputy Director General of the Youth Development Authority, Abdullah Al-Adwani, mentioned that the committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Education, Kuwait University, the Kuwait Debate Club, as well as civil society representatives. He clarified that the project targets all age groups, including students and graduates.
Al-Adwani explained that the Authority is supportive of the project and will establish a foundational system, procedural guide, and an institutional document to ensure its sustainability. He noted that this coordination aims to encourage investment in youth, which is a primary focus for state agencies, in line with the New Kuwait Vision 2035.
Dr. Nawal Al-Kandari, supervisor of the debates at Kuwait University, affirmed that the "Kuwait Debate" will enhance collaborative efforts, positively impacting its outcomes. She expressed hope that this will generate increased momentum for the project in the upcoming phase.
Al-Kandari noted that Kuwait University conducts debating competitions across its 16 colleges, with the best speakers being selected to represent the university in the national championship and at external competitions.
She stated that the workshops will be held over three consecutive days, starting from Monday, October 21, to Wednesday, October 23, in the administrative building of the Center for Community Services and Continuing Education at Sabah Al-Salem University City. The competitions will then commence on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the College of Life Sciences, starting at 10 a.m where the semifinal round for the qualified teams will take place, while the final will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the College of Life Sciences at 12 p.m.
For his part, Bader Al-Shatti, representative of the Ministry of Education on the committee, stated that this collaboration reinforces an important principle: investing in youth and their knowledge while developing their thinking skills. This, he noted, creates a generation capable of contributing to the development of society and the nation.
