Students of the Laboratory and Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at the College of Social Sciences participated with guests of the workshop entitled "Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Art and Antiquities" which falls within the activities of the training course on characterizing archaeological artifacts for the use of nuclear techniques of the International Atomic Energy Agency. It is held in collaboration with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, and the College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University.
The students also visited archaeological sites on Failaka Island and conducted a field analysis using an X-ray device for archaeological samples from the Hellenistic Castle site to verify the chemical components using nuclear radiation techniques.
In this regard, the supervisor of the Museum and Laboratory of Archaeology at the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Hassan Ashkanani, stated that this workshop, which is being presented for the first time, was prepared a year ago, as Kuwait was selected to invite nuclear radiation technology experts and archaeologists to research ways that facilitate the use of advanced technologies in cultural heritage.
