Under the patronage and attendance of Vice President of Kuwait University for Medical Sciences, Prof. Noura Al-Suwaih, the College of Public Health organized an awareness event under the title “Diabetes: Coexistence and Prevention 2”, which included awareness and educational lectures presented by specialists and experts, in addition to an exhibition in which 16 relevant governmental and private institutions participated, in the presence of Acting Dean of the College, Dr. Alia Musa, the Administrative Director, Anfal Al-Awadhi, among faculty members and students.
At the beginning, Prof. Al-Suwaih explained the importance of this event in November, which is the international month for awareness and prevention of diabetes, explaining that Kuwait is one of the countries in the world with a high incidence of diabetes, whether in children or adults, which constitutes a health, social, economic, and psychological burden on the health of the individual, family and society as a whole. This necessitates the spread of awareness to avoid contracting this disease and coexisting with it for those who suffer from it and those around them, explaining that this event also comes within the framework of cooperation between Kuwait University, represented by the Medical Sciences Center, and the Ministry of Health.
For her part, Acting Dean of the College of Public Health, Dr. Alia Mousa, explained that the college is organizing this exhibition for the second consecutive year, as part of its participation in spreading awareness and focusing on the importance of preventing diabetes, which is one of the challenges facing public health worldwide and Kuwait in particular, as it is considered a trigger to heart, blood vessel, kidney, eye and limb diseases.
The event included awareness lectures presented by Dr. Wafaa Limon, Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultant at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Dr. Fatima Al-Ghadhban and Dr. Manar Al-Awadhi from the College of Public Health, in addition to an awareness exhibition with the participation of 16 governmental and private institutions.
