
As part of Kuwait University's response to the community initiatives launched by the Ministry of Health, which aim to enhance public health by improving the quality of life and addressing the social determinants of health on campus, especially with Kuwait University being recognized as a Healthy City, the university, represented by the Department of Security and Safety, participated in the second conference for Healthy Cities in the State of Kuwait, held from February 10 to 12, 2025. The event was sponsored and attended by His Excellency, Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, and involved numerous health bodies and institutions from across the country.
Kuwait University's participation underscored the importance of the Kuwait Healthy Cities Conference as a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, learn about innovative knowledge in implementing and utilizing available resources to ensure the success of initiatives in the field of Healthy Cities in Kuwait.
Prof. Maha Al-Sijari from the College of Social Sciences participated in a panel discussion titled "The Level of Awareness and Knowledge of the Concept of Healthy Cities," emphasizing the support of community work and the development of mechanisms to meet the standards of Healthy Cities to achieve comprehensive development and build diverse partnerships between cities and health institutions.
Also, Mr. Yusuf Yaqoub Al-Khamis, Director of the Department of Security and Safety, participated in a panel discussion titled "Kuwait University: A Health-Promoting University," where he highlighted the support and implementation of all measures aimed at enhancing the health of individuals within the university community. This includes updating operational methodologies, community initiatives, and leveraging knowledge and national policies for the optimal implementation of Healthy Cities, all of which contribute to the service and safety of everyone. He emphasized the importance of continuing to hold such conferences to build capacities, promote community initiatives, and develop future visions for sustaining the Healthy Cities system.
On the sidelines of the second Healthy Cities Conference in Kuwait, an exhibition was held, where both the College of Public Health and the Department of Security and Safety from Kuwait University participated, alongside many other organizations and institutions involved in the conference.
