The University Council’s approval the Deanship of Admissions and Registration’s proposal to accept employees wishing to join Kuwait University, in light of the Civil Service Council’s decision to approve employees combining work and study at their own expense without obtaining a leave of absence or a scholarship in accordance with some conditions.
Approval of the College of Education’s proposal to establish the Department of Educational Technology, and the recommendation of the Committee of Academic Affairs.
Approval to pause the move of the College of Architecture to the North Campus of the College of Life Sciences in Sabah Al-Salem University City, and to remain in its current location on the Adailiya campus in coordination with Abdullah Al-Salem University.
Approval of the promotion of 9 academic staff members to professor and associate professor from various colleges.
The Acting Professor of Kuwait University, Prof. Meshari Al-Harbi, chaired the University Council meeting No. (5/2023) on Sunday, November 12, 2023, which was held in the University Council meeting room in Sabah Al-Salem University City on the tenth floor of the University Administration Building, in the presence of members of the University Council.
First, the Acting President of Kuwait University welcomed the attendees of the meeting held to discuss a number of items on the agenda.
In a statement after the meeting, the Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University and the official spokesman for the university, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri said that the University Council had approved the minutes of meeting No. (4/2023) held on July 27, 2023. He also reviewed the follow-up report of the decisions of the University Council in its meeting No. (4/2023) and the ratification of the University Council’s decision by passing on August 31, 2023, regarding the budget of Kuwait University for the fiscal year 2024/2025.
Prof. Al-Dhafiri mentioned that the University Council reviewed the letter of the Minister of Education and the Minister of Higher Education (Chairman of the Council of Public Universities) regarding eliminating the overlap in the specializations between the University of Kuwait, the Civil Service Commission, and the Ministry of Finance and determining the specializations of the Kuwait University Council in this regard, noting that it would only issue financial regulations and decisions after presenting it to the Ministry of Finance in light of Cabinet Resolution No. (865) taken at its meeting held on August 21, 2023.
Prof. Al-Dhafiri indicated the approval of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration’s proposal to amend clause (27) of the admission and transfer policy for the academic year 2023/2024, which was approved by the University Council in its meeting No. (1/2023) on April 12, 2023, in the clause related to accepting employees wishing to join Kuwait University. This is in light of the Civil Service Council’s decision in its meeting No. (10) of 2023 to approve employees combining work and study at their own expense without obtaining a leave of absence or a scholarship in accordance with some conditions.
The Council also approved the proposal of the General Secretariat of the Administration of Security and Safety regarding establishing regulations for managing, operating, and maintaining entry and exit control devices and systems and activating smart cards for all Kuwait University facilities.
The University Council approved the presentation of a list of cheating and misconduct for academic aptitude tests at Kuwait University.
The Council also approved the proposal of the College of Life Sciences regarding the additional teaching load for members of the college’s academic staff, and the recommendation of the Committee of Academic Affairs.
Prof. Al-Dhafiri referred to the Council’s approval of the College of Education’s proposal regarding the establishment of the Department of Educational Technology, and the recommendation of the Committee of Academic Affairs.
Prof. Al-Dhafiri said that the University Council has approved the request of the Ministry of Higher Education to renew the assignment of some of the following academic staff members to the Ministry of Higher Education for a period of one year:
Prof. Al-Dhafiri said that the proposal to pause the move of the College of Architecture to the northern campus of the College of Life Sciences in Sabah Al-Salem University City was approved, and to remain in its current location on the Adailiya campus in coordination with Abdullah Al-Salem University until the completion of the college buildings in Sabah Al-Salem University City.
The University Council also approved the request to adopt the recommendation for Clause No. (03) of the Supreme Committee to follow up on the transfer of Kuwait University to Sabah Al-Salem University City at its meeting (02/2023) on August 28, 2023, regarding the amendment to the transfer plan for the College of Law and College of Social Sciences, as well as the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies for the next academic year 2024-2025.
Prof. Al-Dhafiri also noted the Council’s approval of the proposal to amend Clause 3 of Article 9 - review of the financial regulations of the Authorship, Arabization and Publishing Committee at Kuwait University.
The Council approved the proposal to amend Clause (2) in each of Articles (68) Reward for Funded Research and (69) Reward for Unfunded Research from Chapter Fourteen regarding adding participating researchers from outside the State of Kuwait.
The Council approved the proposal to amend the regulations regulating intellectual property rights and patents, and the opinion of the Department of Financial Affairs and the College of Law in this regard.
The University Council also approved the proposal of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration to amend the university calendar of the College of Law for the academic year 2023/2024.
The Council approved the appointment of the following academic staff members, each to the position shown in front of his name, and the promotion of (9) faculty members was approved.
