The Healthy Cities Office visits Sabah Al Salem University City to Conduct Self-evaluation

The Healthy Cities Office of the Ministry of Health visited Sabah Al-Salem University City on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, to conduct self-evaluation in preparation for accrediting Kuwait University as a Healthy University City, in the presence of the Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Mishari Al-Harbi, the representative of the President of the Healthy Cities Office, Dr. Laila Al-Fuzaie from the Ministry of Health, and members of the committee. The meeting was also attended by members of the team formed pursuant of the decision of the President of Kuwait University No. (1208), headed by the Acting Vice President – Academic Affairs and the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Maha Al-Sajari.
In this regard, the Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Mishari Al-Harbi thanked the Healthy Cities Office and the committee formed at the university for their efforts to promote the concept of a Healthy University City and follow up on the application of the required standards at Kuwait University, stressing that Kuwait University is keen on keeping the campus environment friendly, and has developed a distinctive strategy to create an exemplary educational and developmental environment for the university campus.
Prof. Al-Harbi said that he reviewed the sustainability and healthy environment requirements available in Sabah Al-Salem University City and the plans and policies implemented to promote the concept of comprehensive health, such as water and sanitation management, waste management, dealing with pollution, promoting the concept of healthy nutrition and physical activity, and commitment to prohibiting smoking. In addition to promoting mental health and preventing infectious diseases, implementing a medical examination program, early detection programs for diseases, physical safety, injury prevention, emergency preparedness and response, as well as to community participation and sustainability, cooperation and partnership between sectors and lastly, establishing an information center hoping their efforts be fruitful.
The Acting Vice President - Scientific Affairs and the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Maha Al-Sajari thanked the Acting Presient of Kuwait University, Prof. Mishari Al-Harbi, and the university administration for their continuous support since the beginning of the formation of the Healthy Cities team, which will lead to the accreditation of Sabah Al-Salem University City as a healthy city in the near future, stressing that with the sincere contribution of the volunteer team and their dedication, the work period was reduced from three years to one and a half.
A detailed presentation of what will be presented to the World Health Organization was prepared in order to evaluate and approve the final features of the visit scheduled for December 10-11 of this year.
