In an innovative step towards improving the efficiency of air conditioning systems and preserving the environment, Kuwait University registered a patent from the US Patent Office of the US Department of Commerce through the Office of Patents and Intellectual Property at the Office of the Vice President – Research, and through the efforts of the reserach team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, Dr. Ammar Bahman, Dr. Osama Ibrahim and Eng. Sarah Barghash. The patent titled “Air Conditioning System with a Solar Baser Sub-Cooling Device” contains innovation that represents an important step forward in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning technology, which meets the growing need to improve the cooling systems of homes and buildings.
Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri congratulated the inventors for obtaining a new patent and expressed his pride in the role of the Office of Patents and Intellectual Property in the research sector, which has always been proactive in supporting inventors.
The Acting Vice President for Research, Prof. Othman Al-Khader stated that Kuwait University is proud of a distinguished elite of inventors such as Dr. Ammar Bahman, Dr. Osama Ibrahim and Eng. Sara Barghash who obtained an invention that contributes to improving the Kuwaiti environment. This patent comes in line with the vision of the State of Kuwait for the year 2035 and the sustainable goals of the United Nations. It also contributes to raising the indicators of Kuwait University’s QS classification of international universities.
The principle inventor, Dr. Ammar Bahman said that the idea of the invention is based on the main air conditioning system, which operates in a traditional refrigeration cycle using refrigeration gas and includes a sub-cooling system that operates the compressor with a rechargeable battery attached to a photovoltaic solar panel. The main and sub-systems are connected by a heat exchanger so that the two systems can use the same type of refrigerant gas or different types to obtain the maximum efficiency of the device.
