Launch of the Fifth Annual Cyber Security Education and Research Conference on Sunday, October 15, 2023 with support from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and the British government.
Under the patronage of the Head of the National Cyber Security Center, Major General Eng. Mohamed Abdulaziz Bouarki, The College of Engineering and Petroleum announced the fifth annual Cyber Security Education and Research Conference at the Conference Center in Sabah Al-Salem University City on the 15th and 16th of October 2023, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference is organized as a joint project between the British government - represented by the British Embassy in Kuwait - in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), Kuwait University and the Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST), and with the support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and the British government. The Cyber Security Education and Research Conference includes lectures, research, and panel discussions by a group of specialists from Britain, Kuwait and the GCC.
This area of focus for this year’s conference revolves around digital trust and safety and includes the following topics:
In this regard, the head of the National Cyber Security Center, Major General Eng. Muhammad Abdulaziz Bouarki, emphasized the importance of these events in enhancing the means of cooperation, coordination, and exchange of information and experiences between various local, regional, and international authorities in the field of cyber security. In addition to the Center’s keenness to support these events to raise the level of awareness of cyber security in the State of Kuwait and avoid cyber risks and minimize its effects, in an effort to create a secure cyberspace that supports and enhances economic and digital security and protects national interests.
He also stated that the main goal of the National Cyber Security Center, which was established by Decree No. 37 of 2022, is to provide a national umbrella responsible for securing and protecting information networks, communications and information systems, collecting and exchanging information using digital means and cooperating with the concerned government, civil, military, and security authorities and private sector institutions within Kuwait.
In turn, the British Ambassador to Kuwait, Belinda Lewis said, “The British Embassy is pleased to present the fifth annual Cyber Security Education and Research Conference alongside our partners in the Kuwaiti government and the community. The fields of security and technology are considered a cornerstone of the bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and the State of Kuwait, and we are pleased to see our partnership in the field of cyber security grow. This conference is part of the horizon of cooperation between us in the field of cybersecurity and reflects an important development of our commitment to working together to overcome common challenges”.
For his part, the representative of Kuwait University for the Cyber Security Conference, Dr. Amir Muhammad from the College of Engineering and Petroleum said, “I am pleased to announce the participation of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University in the Cyber Security Education and Research Conference this year, in an effort to highlight the importance of cyber security in the current academic environment and the commitment to the ongoing development of the curriculum offered at the College of Engineering and Petroleum”. He stated that this year’s conference will address topics related to digital trust, the role of artificial intelligence in cyberattacks, and raise awareness of cyber security and data privacy, in addition to the most prominent research in the field of cybersecurity and modern technologies.
He added, “The conference also aims to bring together experts from universities, private and governmental institutions in Kuwait and the United Kingdom to share and exchange ideas in order to develop cyber security and infrastructure education”. He stressed that this year's lectures will be enjoyable for both researchers and those interested in cyber security, hoping for fruitful results and a stronger partnership between researchers in Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
In turn, the President of the Kuwait College of Science and Technology, Prof. Khaled Al-Begain, said:
“We are proud of the development and continuity of the Cyber Security Education and Research Conference, which has become a major platform in Kuwait for scientific research and the exchange of science and information in the field of cyber security. It has also become an example of scientific and academic cooperation between public and private institutions and universities in Kuwait, with generous support from the British government represented by the British Embassy, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences”.
He explained that what distinguishes the fifth annual Cyber Security Conference is it keeping pace with the world’s development through the diversity of topics presented. This makes the conference a real measurement tool for the interest of the government and private sectors in the field of cybersecurity, which has become one of the desirable fields in education and work, and has succeeded in acquiring a large following that seeks to explore the many diverse fields of cyber security, including, but not limited to, protecting databases and their confidentiality in transactions between government institutions, the protection of the security of electronic and home devices, and also building the required protection in work environments from the risks and dangers of cyberspace.
He continued, saying, “The conference this year confirms the extent of the development of scientific research in cyber security and the needs of Kuwait and the world to focus on the topics of digital trust strategies, the role of artificial intelligence in protection, as well as the integration of cyber security in curriculums. We hope that the conference will continue in achieving its mission to bridge science and scientific research between Kuwait and Britain and to spread cyber awareness in public circles”.
