The Kuwait University team ranked fifth in the world in the Minus CO2 Challenge, which is organized by the European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE) for the year 2023. This is the first participation of Kuwait University in this competition, and the team’s participation began last May, where the team conducted studies in one of the regions in Canada to develop plans and strategies using wind turbines that would reduce the rate of carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere, which falls in line with the global vision for a sustainable environment.
The three phases have seen intense competition with international universities, as a result of which the team qualified ahead of the rest of the participants and obtained fifth place in the final qualifiers.
It is worth noting that the Kuwait University team included students: Reem Al-Subaie and Sultan Dwaiar from the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Noir Al-Azmi from the College of Science, under the supervision of Dr. Ohoud Bader Al-Salem, faculty member in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the College of Science.
