Dr. Latifa Khazal Al-Enezi, from the Department of Physiotherapy at the College of Allied Health Sciences participated in the 3rd European Conference on Aging and Gerontology. The conference was held from 13-17 July 2023 in London.
Dr. Al-Enezi gave a scientific lecture during the conference, in which she presented the results of her latest research, which was conducted in Kuwait, with the participation of Kuwaiti elderly over the age of 65.
Dr. Al-Enezi explained that the study included tests to measure muscle mass and the extent of their atrophy with age. She explored the factors that may help increase muscle atrophy and how they affect physical fitness, movement and performance of daily activities among the elderly in Kuwait, noting that this study, which was funded by Kuwait University, is the first of its kind in Kuwait.
It is worth noting that the percentage of the elderly in Kuwait is increasing rapidly, and it may reach an estimate of 16% in the year 2025; Which calls for more research to be done on this age group to help in early detection and prevention of these diseases to reduce cases of disability in the elderly.
Dr. Al-Enezi thanked Kuwait University, and in particular the research sector, for their cooperation and encouragement to faculty members by funding their research, and funding attending scientific conferences globally.
