Kuwait University Organized an Awareness Event on the International Day against Drugs

In cooperation with the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health, Kuwait University organized an awareness event on the International Day against Drugs. The event was attended by the head of the Healthy Cities Team at Kuwait University and Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Maha Al-Sijari, the Head of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health Dr. Amal Hussein Al-Yahya, the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs Dr. Dhari Al-Huwail, and the Acting Director of the Administration of Security and Safety Yousef Al-Khamis. The event aimed to spread health awareness among members of the university community.
The head of the Healthy Cities Team at Kuwait University and the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Prof. Maha Al-Sijari said that Kuwait University is seeking to accredit Sabah Al-Salem University City as a healthy city, through joint efforts between its students, professors, and administrators in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
The Head of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amal Hussein Al-Yahya, expressed her happiness at being in Sabah Al-Salem University City to meet the students of Kuwait University, indicating that this event aims to introduce the concept of a healthy city, in which students play a fundamental role in the realization of this project. She confirmed that Sabah Al-Salem University City has come a long way in the process of transforming into a healthy university city, starting with the College of Social Sciences, and from there expanding the application to include the entire Sabah Al-Salem University City.
The Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dhari Al-Huwail, stated that Kuwait University, represented by the Deanship of Students’ Affairs, is ready to provide all support for this initiative to make Sabah Al-Salem University City a healthy city. He added that the university is keen to implement the goals and initiatives of the healthy city and the guidelines of the World Health Organization on its grounds.
The event included two seminars. The first seminar dealt with the concept of a healthy city and was delivered by the head of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amal Hussein Al-Yahya.
The second seminar “Addiction and Prevention” was delivered by Dr. Hussein Al-Shatti and Mr. Abdullah Al-Neame from the Addiction Treatment Center. They tackled the definition of addiction, the causes and symptoms of substance abuse, psychological substances, treatment stages, and ways of entry to the addiction treatment center.
The event also included an exhibition in the lobby of the College of Science. Several agencies participated in the exhibition including: the Addiction Treatment Center of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, the administration of Security and Safety at Kuwait University and others.
