Kuwait University registered a patent from US Patent Office of the US Department of Commerce, entitled:
A technique to replicate soft tissue anatomy using a multi-purpose 3-dimensional resin printed prototype for implant supported fixed prostheses
The patent was obtained through the efforts of Dr. Fawaz Muhammad Al-Zoubi from the Department of General Dentistry and with help from the Patent Office, which falls under the Office of the Vice President for Research.
Dr. Al-Zoubi was honored by the Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Fahad Al-Rashidi, in the presence of the Acting Vice President for Research, Prof. Othman Al-Khidir, and Assistant Vice President for External Research, Cooperation and Consultations Dr. Hanin Al-Ghabra, and the Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry Dr. Rashid Al-Azmi, on May 15th, in Sabah Al-Salem University City in Al-Shaddiya
The inventor Dr. Fawaz Al-Zoubi said that this invention sheds light on the use of modern technology to copy the composition of the gum tissue before the final manufacture of artificial teeth, using a multi-purpose prototype printed with 3D technology. He added that the invention facilitates the process of communicating with dental laboratories, where they can obtain an ideal result for the sunken surface and highlighting the profile of the artificial teeth, which will contribute to improving the workflow and obtaining better treatment results through the accuracy of the multiple features represented in the splint, including the texture of the tissues. This technology can also be used in an analog workflow or to supplement a digital workflow.
The Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Fahad Al-Rashidi congratulated the inventor on obtaining the patent and praised his remarkable achievement. He expressed Kuwait University's pride in this accomplishment and wished Dr. Fawaz Al-Zoubi continued prosperity, excellence, and more achievements and scientific research in the coming years.
Dr. Othman Al-Khidir, the Acting Vice President for Research, stated that Kuwait University, represented by the Research Sector, provides the best services to researchers in various disciplines.
Dr. Hanin Shafiq Al-Ghabra, the Assistant Vice President for External Research, Cooperation and Consultations, expressed her pride in the achievement of the researcher in obtaining a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She explained that this patent is the first one obtained after implementing the Fast Track service, which aims to reduce the examination time for patents by examiners at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, making the duration from six months to a year instead of one to three years.
