The national project team for the first Kuwaiti satellite of Kuwait University, KuwaitSat-1, announced that the satellite has captured several images of Kuwait and merged them into a mosaic; This is to present a beautiful view of the eastern half of Kuwait from the islands of Warba and Bubiyan, then Kuwait City and Failaka Island to the Burgan field and the southern region of the coast of Kuwait. The team congratulated the leadership and people of Kuwait for this important achievement.
This achievement of the national project of KuwaitSat-1, which is supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), is the result of continuous efforts and hard work by a dedicated team of young Kuwaiti scientists and engineers over the past three months, after the launch of Kuwaitsat-1 on January 3rd ,2023.
KuwaitSat-1 is a nanoscale Earth observation satellite whose primary mission is to provide accurate and reliable data for many sectors, including urban and agricultural planning, environmental monitoring and natural resource management. Kuwaitsat-1 contains a high-definition camera with a resolution of 39 meters, which can capture images that allow the collection of valuable information to support sustainable development in Kuwait.
The national project team stated, "This achievement is a medal for everyone who worked on this project, which is a source of inspiration for Kuwait's youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics" (STEM).
The team added, "This success constitutes a new beginning to strengthen Kuwait's position in the space field, develop its scientific and technological capabilities, and enhance Kuwait's research and development capabilities in the field of space science and technology, and reflects the country's commitment to promoting innovation and sustainable development."
The first Kuwaiti satellite team plans to release more images of Kuwait in the coming weeks. The various natural features and environmental systems in Kuwait, such as coasts, deserts and agricultural areas, will be photographed. The team will cooperate with researchers and government agencies to benefit from the images.
