Under the auspices and presence of the Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Fahad Al-Dubais Al-Rashidi, Kuwait University organized a seminar on transforming Sabah Al-Salem University City into a healthy city. The seminar was given by the Head of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amal Al-Yahya. The seminar was attended by the Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences and the head of the work group studying the proposal to accredit Kuwait University as a healthy city Prof. Maha Al-Sejari, the Acting Dean of the College of Science Prof. Muhammad Bin Sabt, the Acting Dean of the College of Architecture Dr. Omar Khatab, the Assistant Vice President for Scientific Affairs Dr. Fahad Al-Fadhli, the Acting Director of the Administration of Safety and Security Yousef Al-Khamis, and several representatives from the Ministry of Health in addition to students.
Dr. Amal Hussein Al-Yahya gave a brief explanation about the healthy cities initiative in Kuwait, which has been in operation since 2014 and has registered 15 healthy cities, three of which have been certified as global healthy cities. She stated that the Healthy Cities Office in the Ministry of Health adopted this program to support a healthy lifestyle and provide healthy options in an accessible manner for everyone.
Dr. Al-Yahya said that Kuwait University can become a healthy university due to having intellectual and creative resources, and the presence of centers specialized in education and research. She noted that the university has the resources, authority and ability to influence public health policies.
