An elite group of students from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at College of Science at Kuwait University, led by Dr. Muhammad Naqi, participated in the annual competition
“Imperial Barrel Award”regulated by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).
Kuwait University team achieved second place, as it competed with a group of students from prestigious universities in the Middle East.This event is considered one of the most important activities organized by the association for university students in the world.
The idea of the competition lies in providing subsurface geological data for one of the sedimentary basins for the universities, as students analyze these geological data under the supervision of university professors and using advanced computer programs to access the quantities of oil and gas present in the ground and the extent of success in extracting them. At the end of the period granted to students, which is estimated For 8 weeks, students present the results to a committee consisting of geologists to evaluate the students' performance.
