Acting President of Kuwait University Prof. Fayez A. Al-Dhafiri chaired the University Council meeting that was held today, July 22nd, 2020, in order to complete the agenda of the previous meeting no. (2/2020), which was held on July 15, 2020, in the presence of University Council members at the University Council Hall in Khalidiya.
In this regard, Secretary-General of KU, Dr. Muthanna Taleb Al-Rifaie, stated that the university council had discussed a number of items on the agenda during the meeting, as the council approved the proposal of distance learning committee regarding the regulation of distance learning if traditional study system at Kuwait University was not possible.
Dr. Al-Rifaie pointed out that the University Council approved the proposal of Office of Vice President for Academic Affairs regarding the extension of the previous announcement for “Scholar” position for the academic year (2019/2020) due to Coronavirus pandemic circumstances.
Dr. Al-Rifaie indicated that the council had reviewed a number of proposals submitted by Faculty Members Association, and the council’s decrees were as follow:
A) The proposal to raise the retirement age for assistant teachers and language teachers at the university from (65) years to (75) years has been approved, provided that Fatwa and Legislation Department be re-addressed in light of the promulgation of the governmental universities law No.76 of 2019.
B) A proposal to cancel the requirement to obtain an excellent report from the last two years to enjoy end-of-service benefits for academic support staff was approved, whilst addressing the relevant authorities.
C) End-of-service gratuity proposal was approved for faculty members who spent more than 30 years in service and are still working, whilst addressing the concerned authorities.
D) The proposal to apply Law No. 86 for the year (2017) has been approved for faculty members and academic support staff with disabilities, or for a disabled caregiver, while addressing the concerned authorities
Dr. Al-Rifaie added that the University Council had approved a proposal to upgrade Dr. Saleh Ahmid Al-Ali from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies - Department of Comparative Jurisprudence and Sharia Policy to the rank of Professor.
