The Kuwait Women's Technology Group (WTMGDG) and Google Developer Group organized a technical conference in conjunction with International Women's Day from March 20 to 30, 2019 at the NUKS building on Khalidiyah campus. Dr. Zainab AlMaraj, Chief Executive Officer of Arab Women in Information Technology and leader and organizer of Women's Technology Industry Group, Kuwait Branch, said that the group of women's technology makers seeks to empower women by developing their technical skills to contribute to the advancement of technology in our beloved country, by providing training opportunities, global conference missions, and gaining expertise by introducing and supporting Google-supported technology workshops focused on Android, Chrome, Drive, Google Cloud Computing and other technical areas.
AlMaraj noted that the aim is to highlight the importance of providing leadership positions for high technical competencies and encouraging them to develop production and creativity in institutions of a technical nature in the country. Pointing out that there is cooperation with other international non-profit organizations that seek to empower Arab women and raise and encourage cooperation and participation among them and raise the level of competence by directing and investing their energies in various fields, whether entrepreneurship, the academic sector, or the industrial sector.
In addition to the "Hackathon" software competition, that focuses on finding practical solutions to local issues from non-profit organizations. Each team presents a solution to a social problem that is presented by two public benefit groups. Each team works to implement a part of the solution to the problems faced by the blind or to support those exposed to domestic violence within 12 hours. These solutions were presented to a group composed of a number of technical specialists in the presence of a group of heads of companies and ambassadors interested in developing the non-profit technical environment in Kuwait. At the end of the conference four teams of participants presented solutions to two problems of local civil society organizations, the blind with the Kuwait Blind Association, and to monitor domestic violence and follow up with the group Ethar Organization and Abolish 153.
For her part, Ms. Sondos AlFarsi, organizer of the Women's Technology Industry Group and Ambassador of the Technical Environment with the Kafo Project, said that this conference is an opportunity for technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, programmers and students to apply their experiences to a reality that benefits society.
For her part, Amal AlKhulaifi invited all sectors of government, private and technical staff to support the activities of the group of Google programmers with a large group of volunteers from Kuwait.
