Dr. Thegal AlAjmi: KU, Gulf University, and AUK Teams Have Qualified for the Final of Kuwait University Debating Championship for Institutions of Higher Education in English

The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Students Activities and the Head of the higher Committee of the Kuwait University Debates Championship for Institutions of Higher Education in English Dr. Thegal AlAjmi announced that 4 teams have qualified for the final of the Debating Tournament, and these teams are from Kuwait University, the Gulf University for Science and Technology, and the American University of Kuwait. After competing on Saturday 30/3/2019 that was held under the patronage of the President of Kuwait University Prof. Hussain AlAnsari.
Dr. AlAjmi stated that the events of the debates started with the participation of about 12 teams of the participants in the tournament through 3 different rounds. The students began the rounds enthusiastically in the different ways of debating in order to win, and at the end of the day 4 student teams are qualified for the final that will be held on Wednesday April 3, 2019.
Dr. AlAjmi stressed that what distinguishes the championship of debates this year is that it was established by the British Parliament system, which is based on international participations at the level of the universities of the world. Pointing out that each team consists of two primary members and the third person is the backup and during each round there will be a second team chosen by draw to take the team of Proposition or Opposition. They compete against two other teams chosen in the same way. For example, the tour will be between 4 teams 2 Proposition teams and 2 Opposition teams representing 4 universities, unlike the previous system, which is the competition between two teams only.

In turn, the General Supervisor of Debates Doha AlHouli said that the number of students participating in the debates was more than 30 students from different institutions of higher education, and were competing on various topics for tours, ranging from social and cultural. The tours have witnessed positive manifestations in the competition between the students, and we have seen interactions and enthusiasm of the judges, students, and the audience.
The head of the Administrative Committee of the Debating Championship Ms. Makiya AlSayegh explained that the debates included 12 teams from different educational institutions. She clarified that the Deanship of Student Affairs at Kuwait University in cooperation with the National Panel for Debates held several workshops to explain the method of the British Parliament system, the system adopted for participants to raise awareness of the mechanism of debate, stressing that students are excited to experiment.
In her turn, the Head of the Training Committee for the Debating Championship Noor AlShammari, that the process of the debate went smoothly because of the cooperation of all organizers of the debates, and a large number of Judges participated from various educational institutions. She pointed out that debates are a very important activity because it prepares the student to have arguments and sound logic. This benefits the student at the undergraduate level and after graduating and starting their practical stage, to have more balanced and rational dialogue, inviting all students to participate in the debates.
For her part, the Head of the Media Committee of the Debate Championship Amal AlKanderi said that the preparations of the media committee began before the beginning of the debates with an integrated media team that varied between the staff of the Public Relations Office for the specific supports and student employment students, pointing out that we attract the students and help them to show their abilities. We have also addressed various media to cover the debate so that the championship can be announced and invite the largest possible number of students to participate.
