Kuwait University, represented by Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies, organized a seminar entitled "Climate Change in the Gulf Countries", "The Implications, Risks and Preparedness", conducted by the Head of Geography Department at the College of Social Sciences Prof. Obeid Sorour AlOtaibi. The seminar was hosted by Professor of climate in the Department of Geography at the University of Qaseem in Saudi Arabia Prof. Abdullah bin Abdulrahman AlMissnad, Professor of earthquakes, Department of Earth and Environment Sciences, College of Science at Kuwait University Prof. Feryal Bu Rabee, Professor of Environmental Geology, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, College of Science, Prof. Mohammed Abdulrahman AlSarawi, and the expert of meteorology and forecasting in Kuwait Mr. Essa Ramadan, at the Kuwait International Bank Hall, College of Social Sciences, Shuwaikh campus.
The Climate Professor at the Qaseem University Prof. Abdullah AlMissnad started by thanking Kuwait University and the Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies for this hospitality, and appreciated their generous invitation and wished to benefit the attendees. Then he explained that the way that man deals with natural resources are selfish, which led to global warming and climate change, and reducing the gases that hit the atmosphere of this imbalance, appealing to the concerned Gulf States to exchange information, experience, and efforts and the transfer of climate information to reduce emissions. He suggested the dissemination of the culture of afforestation and agriculture.
For her part, Professor of Earthquakes in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the College of Science, Prof. Feryal Bu Rabee explained the relationship of torrential rains to the occurrence of earthquakes, and what is the probability of occurrence, and precautions that must be taken in Kuwait, a prefix to explain what the earthquakes and why and where to occur in Kuwait, indicating the history of earthquakes and earthquakes that occurred registered in the State of Kuwait.
In his turn, Professor of Environmental Geology at the Department of Earth and Environment Sciences at Kuwait University, Prof. Mohammed AlSarawi said that climatic changes occur either for natural or human-induced causes, and that changes in temperature, water salts and oxygen in the marine environment lead to the phenomenon of red tide, the geologist of the State of Kuwait, and all the Gulf countries such as the coasts of the UAE and Qatar, calling for Gulf cooperation to identify the stocks in the region and exchange research to learn how to act in such changes.
The Meteorologist and weather forecaster and media consultant at the Ministry of Information Mr. Essa Ramadan mentioned that awareness is important to the seriousness and abundance of rainfall in the country, and that climate change has become evident, especially after the post-industrial periods of the world with the presence of fossil fuels and pollution that led to complete climate change. It negatively impacted the region, which has led to an increase in melting rates and temperature changes, leading to a shortage of resources over time.
Mr. Ramadan noted for the need for agriculture and afforestation in order to stabilize the soil and reduce the temperature and reduce and reduce these climate changes.
