CBA student Rana AlJallal earns the Sciences Po Award in their annual competition in in the field scientific research. The paper is about economics that is related to the Arab world and the G.C.C. The paper was prepared under the supervision of Dr. Nayef AlShammari, a faculty member in the Economics department at Kuwait University.
The student presented a research under the title "The Impact of Migrants on the Mass of Trade in the Middle East and North Africa". The research analyzes the impact of migration levels on the trade size of Arab countries. The results showed that the factors related to the level of immigrations, the size of economy, the exchange rate, distance, language, and the existence of common borders are all statistically significant and have an impact on the size of their trade.
The study presented three main recommendations regarding the policies of migrants. The first is the provision permanent residence to migrants who invest a certain amount of capital in local markets. The second is based on the needs of the local economy and the market in order to control the flow and manage the level of immigrant population as necessary. The final recommendation of the study is to prioritize the migration of highly skilled workers on the basis of qualifications to invest human capital in order to achieve economic growth.
