Professor Tahir Al-Sahhaf , Vice President for Research and Head of Academic Publication Council, stated that in light of the objectives of the council, and in accordance to the terms of references assigned, the Academic Publication Council organized many scientific activities, according to a planned strategy with specific mechanism and time schedule.
Prof. Al-Sahhaf said that his goal is to spread the scientific culture to serve the academic and decision making leaders, as well as the interested readers, the scientific journals as the Committee of Authorship Translation and Publication received 3563 research in various scientific majors from different countries. Clarifying that this increase affirms the trust of the researchers in the demand on publication in the scientific journals, emphasizing its position among the counterparts, and meeting the academic needs for expanding.
Prof. Al-Sahhaf indicated that the percentage of declined researches was increased to 21.1 %, and thus the journals maintained its scientific value, which is achieved by the purification of received publications, choosing among the best according to publication rules.
As for the demand of researchers from outside Kuwait for publication in scientific journals than those in Kuwait, Prof. Al-Sahhaf clarified that the scientific journals no longer depends on publishing KU’s faculty staff members researches like the past years, pointing out that the polarized researches from outside Kuwait reached 3253 researches at 91.3 % increase, and 310 researches inside Kuwait at 8,7% increase , emphasizing on the importance and the status of the scientific journals outside Kuwait. Prof. Al-Sahhaf assured that the interest and demand on scientific journals is increasing which confirms the confidence of the reader, including topics dealing with problematic issues that are addressed and negotiated in the researches in academic terms.
In the same context, Prof. Al-Sahhaf added that during a full year from the beginning of October 2016 until the end of September 2017, 173182 research and studies were downloaded from Kuwait University journals, at an increase of 67,427 research for the previous year, an increase of 63.75%, a figure exceeding expectations.
In the area of ​​expanding the definition of the Council publications, Prof. Al-Sahhaf said that a number of publications were given out for research centers, cultural institutes , and scientific organizations, thus strengthening the relations with these parties, introducing the scientific production of Kuwait University, and having these publications as references at their libraries, therefore researches and students will have the opportunity to benefit from KU’s publications.
Prof. Al-Sahhaf concluded his statement by pointing out the significance of these scientific projects as the Council seeks to develop its work by implementing the following tasks: adopting a global publisher of Kuwait Journal of Science, and the Journal of Research Engineering to ensure deployment as well as continuing to implement the project of electronic archive of all the publications of the Academic Publication Council, in addition to re-design and modernize and develop of the electronic working environment, and continuing to join more global databases and directories as well as scientific indexes
