College of Public Health held its orientation meeting for the first batch of students with the presence of Vice President of Health Sciences Prof. Adel Al-Awadhi and his predecessor Prof. Basil Al-Naqeeb , Assistant Undersecretary For Public Health at the Ministry of Health Dr. Majda Al-Qattan, the Spokesman for the Ministry Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti along with professors, students and parents.
Dr. Majdah Al-Qattan expressed her joy over the establishment of College of Public Health , indicating that public health has become the first topic in the agenda of the World Health Organization and other international organizations.
She asserted that Ministry of Health, specifically the public health sector, is in urgent need for specialized people in public health and will be employed in 16 different departments: the National Center for Health Information, the Department of Primary Health Care, the Department of Public Health, Department of Training and Development, the Department of Quality and Recognition, the Department of Health Promotion, the Department of the Elderly, the Department of School Health, Nutrition and Food Department, Infection Prevention Department, Occupational Health Department, Planning and Follow-up Department. In addition, to the employment opportunities in dozens of hospitals , health centers and the Kuwait Center for Medical.
. Al-Qattan revealed that there are great opportunities to work in many other government agencies such as Dasman Sugar Center, Food Authority, Environment Public Authority, Ministry of Defense ( Health Sector), Department of Health Services in the Oil Sector, Civil Defense Authority, National Assembly and General Authority for Manpower , And the Ministry of Affairs and other relevant bodies, not to mention the gradual levels of career and leadership, noting that graduates will participate in policy-making , decision-making and the development of health services. The Graduates will also have good opportunities to work in the private sector in the future especially in the oil and food industry, pharmaceutical companies and companies providing health services areas.
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joseph Longenker, explained that the duration of study at the college is four years. The general subjects are studied within 3 years. The student chooses one of the four disciplines available: Public Health Practice, Health Care Administration, Public Health Research And the development of community health, pointing out that the transfer to the College will be available during the coming period in accordance with the regulations of the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
