In a remarkable artistic accomplishment, Ayed Al-Rajhi, a student at the College of Education at Kuwait University and a member of the Photography Club under the Cultural and Artistic Activities Division at the Deanship of Student Affairs, was awarded the prestigious “Best Youth Award” in the Monochrome (Black & White) category at the Germany International Photography Competition (GIP).
The GIP is a highly regarded competition recognized by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), an organization that has united photography associations from over 90 countries since its establishment in 1946.
This year’s edition of the competition witnessed the participation of more than 1,200 photographers from around the globe, with over 12,000 entries submitted across various categories—highlighting a vibrant display of creative visual expression.
Al-Rajhi stood out with his emotionally powerful photograph titled “A Scarred Gaze”, taken at Birqash Camel Market in the Arab Republic of Egypt—one of the region’s most iconic camel markets. The image captures the weathered face of an elderly man working in the market, aiming to convey the impact of time on the human spirit and to evoke profound emotional resonance through facial expression and the interplay of light and shadow.
Expressing his gratitude, Al-Rajhi said:
“I extend my sincere thanks to the Deanship of Student Affairs at Kuwait University, especially Mr. Bader Al-Mutairi, Head of the Artistic Division, for their continuous support and encouragement. Their efforts play a vital role in developing our artistic skills and motivating us to participate in local and international competitions.”
