Al-Dana Hall Hosts the Ceremony of Awarding the Accreditation Certificates of Sabah Al-Salem University City, Dasma City and Al-Oyoun City as Healthy Cities

Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi:
The dedicated work was crowned with a certificate of high value which contributes to raising the name of Kuwait among nations by accrediting Sabah Al-Salem University City as the first health-promoting university in the State of Kuwait.


Under the patronage and attendance of His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Al-Jalal, and the representative of Regional Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Asad Hafeez, the Healthy Cities Office organized a ceremony to award the accreditation certificates to Sabah Al-Salem University City, Al-Oyoun Health City, and Dasma Health City on the occasion of their accreditation as healthy cities, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor of Al-Assima, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, His Excellency the Governor of Al-Farwaniya, Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, His Excellency the Governor of Al-Jahra, Mr. Hamad Jassim Al-Habashi, His Excellency the Governor of Al-Ahmadi, Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, on Monday evening, 18 November 2024, in Al-Dana Hall at Sabah Al-Salem University City, in order to realize the vision of "Kuwait 2035" in preparing sustainable development and a healthy environment.
On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nader Al-Jalal, expressed his happiness with this distinguished achievement that carries within it tremendous pride and ambition, which is the accreditation of Sabah Al-Salem University City as a healthy university city by the World Health Organization. This achievement is a result of integrated efforts made by Kuwait University to go beyond being an educational institution to being a model to be emulated in caring for the comprehensive health of its students and members; which reflects its national vision to transform educational institutions into advanced educational centers concerned with the health and safety of the entire community, and its keenness to build a constructive partnership with the Ministry of Health, represented by the Healthy Cities Office, and the World Health Organization, in order to achieve the desired goals of the Kuwait Vision 2035, which places people at the heart of the development process.
In turn, His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, stated that this dedicated work was crowned with a certificate of high value which contributes to raising the name of the State of Kuwait among nations, with the accreditation of Sabah Al-Salem University City as the first health-promoting university in the State of Kuwait, and the Al-Oyoun and Al-Dasma regions obtaining the World Health Organization certificate as healthy cities to join the march of cities accredited by the World Health Organization, which has now reached 7 cities out of 18 regions registered in the regional network of the World Health Organization. He also added, "We aspire, God willing, to reach 10 regions of accredited cities in Kuwait by the end of the year, following Qurtuba, Al-Daiya and Al-Shaab's successful passing of the initial evaluation."
He also stressed that enhancing this program and achieving sustainability requires cooperation between all government sectors and society. Through this cooperation, the program can enable local communities to assess their needs, plan to meet those needs effectively and implement initiatives that improve the quality of life and healthy lifestyles.
For his part, the Representative of Regional Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Asad Hafeez, praised Kuwait’s commitment to establishing a prosperous healthy society in order to be a leading example, stressing that Sabah Al-Salem University City’s obtaining the “Healthy City” certificate is the best evidence of its firm commitment to promoting health and well-being, as it was noted through the visits to evaluate the standards that it integrates health into its daily operations; which enhances its institutional success and the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the community.
Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, expressed his happiness that Sabah Al-Salem University City, as an educational facility, has been accredited by the World Health Organization as a healthy city, along with the Al-Oyoun and Al-Dasma health areas, stressing Kuwait University’s endeavor to enhance the concepts of community partnerships, activating their constructive results for the individual and society, the fruits of which we are reaping today.
He added that Sabah Al-Salem University City is a new city, embracing approximately fifty thousand students daily between 7 am and 4 pm in addition to the academic and administrative staff, and receives more than fifty thousand cars every day in a smooth and organized manner. It is considered a dense area, therefore, obtaining the 110 points required by the World Health Organization to be accredited as a healthy city is a distinguished achievement. On this note, he took the opportunity to appreciate the efforts dedicated by the Healthy Cities Office of the Ministry of Health and the work team.
The ceremony included a visual presentation of Sabah Al-Salem University City, Dasma Healthy City, and Al-Oyoun Healthy City. The organizers of the Healthy Cities Initiative from Kuwait University, and the Dasma and Al-Oyoun Healthy Cities were honored. The ceremony was concluded with a tour of the exhibition accompanying the event.
