
The Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University organized the Gulf Unified Traffic Week 2025 event under the slogan "Driving Without a Phone" in the Engineering and Petroleum College Hall, with the aim to raise awareness among students and all university affiliates. The event was attended by Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Jassim Al-Hamdan, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Facilities Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Al-Sulaiman, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, Prof. Khaled Al-Hazzaa, Head of the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University, Mr. Yousuf Al-Khamis, along with Head of the Gulf Unified Traffic Week 2025 Events Committee, Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Sabhan, and Director of the Traffic Awareness Department and Head of the Media Committee for the Gulf Unified Traffic Week Committee, Colonel Fahad Al-Eisa.

In this regard, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Jassim Al-Hamdan, stated that Kuwait University always participates in any event related to Kuwaiti community, with the new traffic law being one of the most significant changes. He emphasized that this law is not only for students but is also a priority for all university employees at all levels.
He pointed out that there is a large segment of young people involved in student activities and scientific clubs, which highlights the importance of organizing such an event at the College of Engineering and Petroleum. He also expressed the university’s interest in organizing other events at different locations to reach as many attendees as possible, especially since Kuwait University has over 40,000 students, along with faculty and staff. Concluding his statement, he thanked the Ministry of Interior for its ongoing cooperation with Kuwait University.

For his part, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Facilities Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Al-Sulaiman, extended his thanks to the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Department, for its services and awareness campaigns aimed at ensuring the safety of students. He clarified that there is continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Interior aimed at enhancing the partnership between both parties. In the conclusion of his statement, Mr. Al-Sulaiman advised students to adhere to traffic rules to ensure everyone's safety, stressing the importance of these rules in preserving their wellbeing.
Meanwhile, Head of the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University, Mr. Yousuf Al-Khamis, mentioned that the university is honored to host the Gulf Traffic Week events in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Interior. He pointed out the importance of the seminar held to discuss the new traffic law and its impact and implementation in the Sabah Al-Salem University City. During the seminar, questions raised by students and staff of all categories with be directly addressed by representatives of the Ministry of Interior. Mr. Al-Khamis emphasized that the message they want to convey is that students will receive comprehensive and thorough answers to their inquiries regarding this law, wishing everyone success in the Gulf Traffic Week activities.
During the event, Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Sobhan delivered a traffic awareness lecture that witnessed a large turnout of students and faculty members. The lecture covered the most significant legal amendments in the new traffic law, which will come into effect on April 22. Brigadier General Al-Sobhan confirmed that the goal of amending the law is not to issue fines but to send an awareness message about the importance of avoiding traffic violations. He added that committing violations endangers both drivers and passengers, potentially leading to severe accidents that result in injuries, fatalities, and material damage.
Brigadier General Al-Sobhan pointed out that the aim is not increasing the fees of violations but rather protecting a far more significant value: the lives of all road users. He urged all attendees to adhere to traffic laws and contribute to enhancing safety on the roads.
The seminar included a visual presentation presented by Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Sobhan, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Al-Ghanim, Major Raed Al-Aslawi, and Lieutenant Colonel Yousuf Al-Rabah.
